We tested a very interesting FullHD projector from a lesser-known Chinese manufacturer, GELEIPU X5. It offers the Android TV system thanks to a small TV box that plugs directly into the projector.
In our detailed review, you will learn everything important that you should know before buying it. We will look at processing quality, system reliability and, last but not least, image quality.

Quality packaging including carrying bag
The GELEIPU X5 projector was brought to us by SPS courier in a package from Banggoodwith a weight of 3 kg. We praise the double packaging, which we see more and more recently. The box of the projector itself was placed in a second, protective box.
Inside, we find the projector stored in a practical textile bag, which is lined on all sides with foam reinforcements. The projector was thus perfectly protected against damage during transport.
In addition to the projector, the aforementioned bag also contains accessories, for which a smaller part is reserved on the side, separated by a soft partition. The package includes a projector, TV box, power cable, remote control without batteries, HDMI cable, AV cable, USB to micro USB cable, micro HDMI to HDMI cable, manual and cleaning kit. It consists of a small cloth and cotton buds.
Compared to projectors from the Wanbo brand, which we have already tested several times, the package content of the GELEIPU X5 projector is much richer. We particularly appreciate the bag, which is ideal for carrying and storing the projector.
Design and quality of workmanship
GELEIPU X5 is a projector of a standard design in the shape of a cube. The front side is dominated by the projector optics, next to which there is a ventilation grill and an automatic focus system. We also praise the cover for protecting the lamp.
The top is home to the brand's logo and a fairly high number of physical buttons, which is not the norm anymore. There are four directional buttons with confirmation in the middle and three other buttons - power off / on, return back and bring up the projector settings.
In the back part there are two 5 W speakers, ports and a rotary wheel for setting the image correction, the so-called keystone. The ports here include USB, HDMI, AV IN and a 3.5 mm headphone port.
In the lower part, there are four rubberized feet, under which are hidden threads used for fastening to the ceiling. There is also a screw-in leg, which can be used to tilt the projector upwards.
A very interesting and unconventional element is the cover on the right side of the projector, under which there is a space for connecting the TV box. The entire projector is otherwise made of plastic and the quality of the processing is only average.
Android TV box hidden in the projector
As we mentioned above, the package also includes a small and thin Android TV box HAKO mini. Its dimensions are only 6.6 x 6.6 x 1.1 - 1.4 cm with a total weight of only 35 g.
It has its special place on the right side of the projector, under the aforementioned cover. The cables for its connection are also prepared here, which are also beautifully hidden under the cover. It is powered by micro USB and connected to the projector via micro HDMI.
Such a solution is very elegant, since we basically don't even know about it after connecting the TV box. In addition, after removing this Android TV box from the projector, we can also connect it to the TV and use it as standard. All we need is a micro HDMI to HDMI cable from the package and power from an adapter or from the TV via micro USB.
First power-on and system setup
After connecting to the mains for the first time, we choose the language of the projector system, where we also have Czech, but Slovak is missing. Unfortunately, accented letters are not displayed in Czech, so we used English instead. In the next step, we set up the Android TV box, where Slovak is already available.
We can also perform the initial settings using a smartphone via our Google account based on the instructions on the screen. Thus, we avoid entering the password of the WiFi network using the remote control on the virtual keyboard.
All settings are very simple, fast and nicely explained with instructions on the picture. They are also beautifully described in the instruction manual, which is unusually detailed and detailed, including color photos.
Android TV system
A big advantage of the GELEIPU X5 projector is the already mentioned TV box, thanks to which we have the Android TV system in version 12. This system is adapted for televisions and control using a remote control.
You will also be pleased with the official certification of Netflix with a separate button on the remote control for quick access to series and movies. The Android TV environment is not cluttered with any unnecessary applications, as it is basically pure Android TV.
The graphical interface looks the same as, for example, the Xiaomi Mi TV 4s, which we have been using daily in our home for several years. We assume that it does not need to be introduced in any special way. If you already had another device with Android TV connected to your Google account, you can simply choose the applications you want to copy from your account during the initial settings.
As for installing other applications, the Google Play store is available, where we can find classic streaming platforms or applications for watching TV such as Magio, Antik, Skylink and others. We personally use Antik, which works without any problems.
Image, its size and quality
GELEIPU X5 offers a native FullHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 px with support for a maximum resolution of 4K. The projector has optics from the Polaroid company and uses an LCD with LED backlight. The lifetime of the light source is 30 hours.
The projector has a brightness of 500 ANSI lumens, which ranks it among average projectors. During the day, you won't be able to fully enjoy the image, as such luminosity is not sufficient for viewing the image in daylight.
However, it is enough to slightly shade the room and the result is immediately much better. The color rendering is quite good and of course it depends a lot on the background on which you project the image.
It's a shame that the manufacturer only offers a vertical adjustment of image correction when tilting. The projector is therefore not very usable if it is placed slightly to the side on the wall or screen. An image deformed in this way cannot be corrected and the sharpness is also reduced. We would welcome at least a horizontal correction.
The minimum distance from the canvas or wall is 1.3 m, when the picture is 48″. At a distance of 1.5 m the image is 55", at 2 m it is 73" and at 3 m already 118". At smaller or larger distances than those mentioned, the projector is no longer able to fully focus.
Hardware and connectivity
The included TV box, which is actually the core of this projector, has an Amlogic S905Y2 processor with a Mali-G31 MP2 graphics chip with a frequency of 850 MHz. The RAM memory is 2 GB and the internal storage is 8 GB.
In terms of wireless connectivity, there is WiFi support in both bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz, but the manufacturer does not specify the specific WiFi standard that this projector offers. It has Bluetooth version 5.0.
In terms of physical connectivity, we have HDMI, USB, AV IN ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Despite a fairly good hardware specification, the GELEIPU projector can falter quite often. It has its weak moments when it is slowed down or reacts to the remote control with a significant delay or not at all, especially a few minutes immediately after switching on, as if it needs to start.
Unfortunately, this happens quite often, which is a shame, since the slowed reactions are very annoying. We would have enjoyed the projector much more with a better Android TV box.
Remote control and sound
The remote control is black, plastic and well shaped for a comfortable grip in the hand. The buttons are rubberized, have a good response with a slight clicking sound and are pleasant to press.
Since we have official Netflix certification, this streaming platform has a separate button here, as does Prime video. In addition to them, we can find classic direction buttons, return back or to the home screen, voice assistant, volume control, focus or call up projector settings.
The noise level is not particularly high. It hovers around 35 dB, which is standard in this price category. If we sit right next to the projector, we can hear it, but if we move slightly away and turn on a movie, we no longer perceive the noise from it as disturbing.
The quality of the speakers is weaker, similar to most cheap projectors. An external soundbar or other speakers will significantly improve the overall experience.
Settings menu
The menu with the settings of the projector itself, not of Android, can be accessed via a button on the projector itself or on the remote control. After pressing one of them, a small bar appears in the right part of the image with quick links, from where we can also get to complete settings.
These are relatively rich and mostly relate to the image. We have image profile settings available – vivid, standard, soft and custom or also settings for color temperature, aspect ratio, color range, image rotation, image reduction (50-100%) or focus.
There are also sound profile settings – standard, music, movie, sport or custom. We also have sound balance and surround sound, language settings, reset to factory settings, check for updates and display the time for a certain period of time, but we did not find a use for it.
Other problems also appeared
In addition to problems with slow reactions, we also have other problems, which arise mainly from the fact that we control both the projector itself and the Android TV box with one remote control.
When moving through the settings of the projector itself, which we described in the previous chapter, it happened to us several times that the projector stopped responding to the remote control. We therefore recommend making these settings using the buttons on the projector. Switching the remote control between the TV box and the projector does not always work perfectly.
GELEIPU X5: Final evaluation
The projector called GELEIPU X5 is a very interesting and unconventional projector, but at first glance it looks completely ordinary. Its trump card is hidden under the side cover, where a small Android TV box is located, which is the core of the entire projector.
Thanks to it, we have the Android TV system available in version 12, which is a huge advantage of this model. By the way, the TV box can also be used outside the projector, for example with a TV, as it can be easily disconnected and removed.
Otherwise, the GELEIPU X5 belongs to the basic projectors with FullHD resolution and luminosity of 500 ANSI lumens. It is a very interesting product, but the overall impression is significantly spoiled by the used TV box, which has delayed reactions, especially immediately after switching on. It's a shame that the manufacturer didn't use a better TV box. Since the space for the TV box is tailored to the size of this TV box, unfortunately, another one will not fit here.
