Design and processing
Each of these models has a slightly different design, although they are basically similar and there are no design fads to be found here. In terms of build quality, the TicWatch Pro 5 and Samsung Galaxy Watch6 have an aluminum alloy frame, while the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro has a steel frame.
With the brand Mobvoi, which produces TicWatch watches, we can choose from two color versions, black and sand. In both color versions, the frame itself is also in that color. It's the same with Samsung, where black and gray are available. Xiaomi also goes for standard colors, so black and brown are available, but the brown version has a shiny stainless steel bezel and the brown is just the bracelet.
However, Samsung offers several variants of its watches. You can buy the Galaxy Watch6 in a 44 mm or 40 mm version, and there is also a Classic version with a rotating bezel in 47 and 43 mm variants.
While the TicWatch only offers silicone straps for both color variants, similar to Samsung in the base version, Xiaomi only has a silicone strap for the black variant. The strap is brown leather. Samsung offers leather straps for the Classic version. while the basic version is oriented in a sporty direction.
The TicWatch Pro 5 has a diameter of 50 mm, but weighs only 44.3 g, despite the fact that the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is smaller with its 46 mm, it is heavier. Their weight is 54.5 g. However, Samsung wins in this category with its 33.3 g for the 44 mm version, but for comparison, the 47 mm version of the Classic already has 59 g.
Design is quite subjective, but we personally like Samsung watches the most. They have the largest display, the thinnest frame and sapphire glass.
TicWatch Pro 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch6 vs Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro 5: Display
All three compared smart watch models have an AMOLED display. Xiaomi and TicWatch are in the same situation with a diagonal of 1.43″. They also have the same 466 x 466 px resolution and 326 PPI pixel density. The brightness of the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is represented by a value of 600 nits, while the TicWatch does not indicate this figure. Unofficial sources indicate a brightness of 1000 nits.
Samsung Galaxy Watch6 in all its versions have a 1.5″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 480 px. The manufacturer does not specify the brightness either, but unofficial sources indicate a value of 2000 nits, which is the highest among the compared models.
The most interesting element in this category is the secondary display of the TicWatch Pro 5 watch, which is a kind of bonus of this brand. In addition to the standard AMOLED display, there is also a second, energy-saving display above it. The latter offers an alternative to the always-on display, during which the AMOLED display is inactive, thus saving the battery.
On the other hand, this second display is not colored and looks a bit like the display of a classic digital watch, which may not be to everyone's liking. Thanks to this secondary display, the TicWatch Pro 5 watch has a clear advantage over others.
Xiaomi and Samsung also offer an LTE version
When buying Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Watch6, we have a choice between Bluetooth and LTE version, while TicWatch does not currently offer such an option. TicWatch Pro 5 are only available in Bluetooth version.
In this way, we can upload eSIM. This will allow us to make phone calls using the watch even if we don't have a smartphone nearby. It's a shame that our operators do not offer the option of copying a phone number to eSIM, so we have to upload another e to the watchSIM, which means a different phone number.
TicWatch Pro 5 only offer standard calls via Bluetooth, but it is possible that the manufacturer will also present an LTE model, similar to the older version.
Samsung even has a very interesting functionality if you use the watch with a Samsung phone. It can synchronize not only notifications, but also incoming calls to the watch from a smartphone, even if the smartphone is not nearby. It is enough if the watch is connected to the Internet.
TicWatch Pro 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch6 vs Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro: Operating System
All three models have Google's popular watch operating system, WearOS. The Xiaomi and TicWatch are still running on the older version 3.5, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 already has the latest version 4. Neither Xiaomi nor the TicWatch indicate the number of WearOS updates we should expect. We do not know the length of the support in this case. Unlike them, Samsung promises up to four updates.
Thanks to the system from Google, the watch offers the possibility of installing various third-party applications. In this respect, all models are almost the same. One of the few differences is the unavailability of Google Assistant on Mobvoi watches. Another difference is the graphic superstructure, which is modern and fresh in Samsung and Xiaomi, but a bit outdated in TicWatch.
However, the LTE version of the watches from Xiaomi and Samsung has another minor advantage, since with its own eSIM there is also a separate data connection to the Internet without the presence of a smartphone or WiFi network.
Monitoring of vital functions and sports activity
The functions of monitoring vital functions and sports activity, including GPS for recording the route when running or walking, are a matter of course. All three watches measure heart rate, length and quality of sleep or stress level or SpO2.
Unfortunately, we cannot compare the accuracy of these measurements, as we do not have them available for direct comparison, but based on the parameters, we expect higher GPS accuracy during activity tracking with the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro. This is the first watch with dual-band GNSS support.
On the other hand, Samsung has one more advantage, but it is conditional on owning a Samsung smartphone. In that case, the watch can also measure blood pressure and EKG, but it needs the Samsung Health Monitor app for that. The manufacturer recommends regular calibration using a pressure gauge.
TicWatch Pro 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch6 vs Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro: Battery and durability
Watches with the WearOS operating system are loaded with functions and applications, which has also taken its toll. They are infamous for their short battery life per charge. If you have an overview of smartwatches with WearOS, you certainly know that the TicWatch is the king of endurance thanks to its energy-saving display.
The TicWatch Pro 5 has up to a 628 mAh battery and a manufacturer-specified endurance of 80 hours, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro has a 495 mAh battery and a manufacturer-specified endurance of 65 hours, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 has the smallest, 425 mAh battery and an endurance of around 40 hours.
In our real-world testing of the TicWatch Pro 5 smartwatch, we managed 2 and a half days of battery life even with heavy use, while most owners of other WearOS watches have to charge their watches every day.
Hardware and price
The watches from Xiaomi and TicWatch are powered by the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor. They also have the same RAM capacity, 2GB, and also the same internal storage capacity, 32GB.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 are an exception, as their heart is the Exynos W930, they have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. According to available reviews, the smooth running user experience is better on Snapdragon watches.
A watch TicWatch Pro 5 you can currently buy at the time of publishing the article for a price of around 250 EUR on the manufacturer's official website, while the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is available for 269 EUR in the LTE version and 240 EUR in the Bluetooth version. You can buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 in the 44 mm version currently from EUR 229 in the Bluetooth version and EUR 270 in the LTE version. The Classic model range is only slightly more expensive.
TicWatch Pro 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch6 vs Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro: Overall evaluation
Which of these three smartwatches is the best? It partly depends on your preferences. If you are looking for a modern watch with the latest system, a thin frame around the display, you own a Samsung smartphone and you also want to measure your blood pressure, the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 will probably be the best choice.
Close behind them are the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, which also have a modern and attractive design, a nice graphic environment and dual-band GPS. Like the Samsungs, they are also available in an LTE version, which will allow you to make calls even without a smartphone.
The last, but not the worst, is the TicWatch Pro 5, which is the only one that does not offer an LTE version, but has one big advantage over all models. This is a secondary display and significantly better endurance per charge.
