Once again, we bring you an exclusive review of a very interesting smartphone from the workshop of the Vivo brand, which has recently been producing very interesting pieces together with its partner brands. This time it is about the flagship Vivo X80 Pro, which comes with top optics from the Zeiss brand.
In the review, we will take a detailed look at this new product, and we will be particularly interested in the quality of the photos, the overall reliability and operation of the system. Despite the fact that it is a Chinese version, there is also support for our most used 4G band, B20.

Content and quality of Vivo X80 Pro packaging
The Vivo X80 Pro smartphone is sold in a dark gray flat box with dimensions of 18 x 19.1 x 4 cm and a weight of 725 grams. The box is hard enough to ensure smooth transportation during delivery.
However, our partner TradingShenzhen has taken care of additional layers of protection, leaving nothing to chance. The smartphone box was placed in an air protective film along with another layer of silicone. We also received traditional gifts in the form of a European adapter and a small USB fan.
Inside, in addition to the smartphone itself, we also find a protective case, a charging adapter and a USB-C cable. We particularly praise the protective case, as it is not the usual silicone case that most manufacturers pack. The case is in the color of the smartphone (orange), hard and with a fine leather texture.
Quality of workmanship and design
Vivo X80 Pro is the flagship model of the Chinese brand, which is also reflected in the high quality of processing, which can be felt at the first touch. We had the smartphone in orange, but it is also available in black.
When looking at this new product, the back module with the cameras, which is a shiny mirror, is particularly interesting. The rear module has a quadrangular shape, but the cameras themselves are located in a circular element. This combination of a circle with a large angular element and a mirror surface is a little strange at first glance and does not suit us too well in terms of design.
But it's just a matter of taste and after a few days of use, we got used to such a design. However, the negative of the mirror surface is the capture of fingerprints, which stand out on such a surface.
As for the layout of the control elements, you won't find anything unusual here. The bottom edge contains a charging USB-C port, a slot for SIM cards and microphone. The top edge is home to a second microphone and an IR sensor.
The volume control buttons together with the button to light up the display or turn the smartphone off or on are traditionally on the right side, which is unprotected along with the left edge in the included case. Personally, we are not fans of such covers, but at least the smartphone looks slimmer and almost bezel-less in it.
Top AMOLED display
The Vivo X80 Pro boasts the popular E5 AMOLED panel from Samsung, which we already know from other flagship models. It is known for its A+ rating from DisplayMate. The display has a diagonal of 6.78″ and a 2K resolution of 1440 x 3200 px. The already almost standard high refresh rate of 120 Hz with automatic adaptation technology, LTPO, will please you.
The pixel density in this case is represented by a value of 517 ppi, the maximum brightness can reach up to 1500 nits and the sampling frequency is 300 Hz.
As we already mentioned in the title, the display is top-notch, so we have absolutely nothing to complain about. It did not avoid today's trend of curved edges, which together with the curved rear edge form a unified whole. It therefore holds comfortably in the hand, despite the slightly higher weight of 219 g.
Almost 1 million points in AnTuTu
The smartphone is powered by a processor from the American company Qualcomm, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. We assume that there is no need to present it in any special way, so we will only mention the basic data. It is an eight-core processor made with 4 nm technology, which has a maximum clock frequency of 3.0 GHz.
The processor is seconded by the Adreno 730 graphics chip and, in our case, 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM supplemented by 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. A version with 8 GB of RAM or 512 GB of storage is also available. With our version, we got a score of 985 points in AnTuTu.
It is interesting that the manufacturer decided to offer the Vivo X80 Pro smartphone in two versions. One with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and the other with the competing Dimensity 9000. This version with a processor from MediaTek was not available in the TradingShenzhen e-shop for a long time, but it is already in stock. This processor scores slightly higher in benchmarks, making it a very tempting alternative.
Perfect fingerprint reader
Similar to sisterhood iQoo 9 Pro, which we also tested, the new Vivo X80 Pro also has an excellent ultrasonic fingerprint reader in the display. Finally, one touch of the finger was enough for us to register the fingerprint.
The unlocking itself is extremely fast and noticeably more reliable compared to conventional readers in the displays of today's smartphones. You will also be pleased with the generous space for putting your finger together with several customization options.
In the settings, we can find, for example, a change in the design of the space for placing a finger, a choice among several shapes and also various animations.
Cameras in cooperation with Zeiss
Similar to how Xiaomi works with Leica for its flagship model 12S Ultra, Vivo has been working with rival company Zeiss for a long time. It is also a German company with a long tradition in the field of optics and opto-electronics.
On the back of the smartphone, you'll find four cameras in a mirror-like module whose task is to reflect excess light. For high-quality photography, not only good software, which is also provided by Zeiss, but also high-quality hardware is important. It is complemented by a special Vivo V1+ chip, which takes care of better photo processing quality.

Zeiss Natural Color special mode
In addition to the standard mode, the built-in camera application also offers a special mode called Zeiss Natural Color. As the name suggests, colors are more natural in this mode.
In most cases, a significant difference can be seen between the two modes. Classic mode offers more saturated colors with higher contrast, while photos in Zeiss Natural Color mode are significantly paler and less contrasty, but in most cases the photos are too pale for our taste. Nevertheless, they are closer to reality.
On the contrary, the colors of the classic mode are more attractive to the eye, but due to the more saturated colors, they are less natural and sometimes make overcasts, which can be seen, for example, in the sky.
Main 50 Mpx camera
The main camera uses the Samsung GNV sensor, which appears for the first time in the new Vivo X80 Pro. It produces really beautiful photos with high sharpness and excellent colornamitechnical scope.
As we mentioned above, the colors in the classic mode are more saturated with a higher contrast, but thanks to the excellentnamithe number of overexposed or underexposed places is minimized. The shadows are not unnecessarily too pronounced, although there are a few sunburns, especially in connection with the strong sun.
The great thing is that the camera does not unnecessarily emphasize the shadows even in the interior, thanks to which the interior photos are also very decent. In low light in the interior, the sharpness decreases and slight noise increases, but overall these photos look surprisingly good.
Especially in such conditions, the Zeiss Natural Color mode has proven itself, in which the colors are more natural in low light, in contrast to the standard mode, where the colors are too warm and do not correspond to reality.
Ultra-wide camera and macro
The ultra-wide-angle camera has 48 Mpx and its quality is also very good. Compared to the main camera, the colors in the photos are warmer with higher contrast. However, it copes with direct sunlight surprisingly better than the main sensor and the resulting photos are very pleasant.
His dynamialthough the range is weaker, it is still at a good level. In strong sunlight, overburns occur on directly lit buildings, and underexposed areas that are too dark in the shadows. However, this is a common phenomenon with almost all smartphones.
The macro mode, which also uses the ultra-wide-angle camera, is excellent. It has automatic focus, which makes macro photography very easy.
Telescopic lens, portrait and selfie
Vivo boasts up to 5x optical zoom thanks to a separate telescopic lens. Photos taken at 5x zoom are also good, but especially in ideal lighting. Both direct sunlight and low light cause distortion and unnatural colors.
The portrait lens is located outside the circular module of the rear cameras and is not a completely common part of all smartphones. It makes a nice bokeh effect (blurring the background) and keeps the skin color quite natural. When taking a portrait, we can adjust not only the aperture, which affects the level of background blur, but also several styles of bokeh effect, such as Biotar, Sonnar, Planar or Cinematic.
Below you can see the difference between Biotar and Cinematic bokeh styles:
The selfie camera has a resolution of 32 Mpx and its quality is only average. It's a shame that such a well-equipped smartphone does not have a better selfie camera. The maximum video resolution through the front camera, which is only 1080p at 30 fps, will not please you either.
Night mode
In the case of the new Vivo X80 Pro, night mode is available in the camera's main menu. However, the photos are very good even without its activation. The mode intended exclusively for night photography brightens the images, but this slightly reduces the sharpness and the photos become less natural in some cases.
For comparison, we present a pair of shots taken in normal mode, and also using night mode. The difference is not great, but it is visible. Without night mode, you can notice a higher contrast of the photo, a darker sky along with shadowy places. Night mode illuminates even shadowy places, brightens the sky and surrounding buildings.
The ultra-wide-angle camera also copes very well at night, but we can see a different color presentation compared to the main camera. However, the quality of the images is very similar to the main camera, except for the mentioned different colors.
When using the telescoping lens, we like the main mode shots better. Night mode usually makes them too bright, which results in loss of detail and reduced sharpness. In general, when taking pictures with 5x zoom, we had a lot of out-of-focus shots when the night mode was turned on.
Vivo X80 Pro: Video
Vivo also supports 8K video in its flagship model, but without stabilization and only at 30 fps. Video in 4K resolution already supports standard stabilization even at 60 fps. Better image stabilization is then only available at a lower resolution, 1080p.
The quality of 4K video at 60 fps with stabilization on is very good. The Zeiss Natural Color mode is no longer available here, so the colors in the video are relatively highly saturated and contrasty, but very attractive to look at.
The quality of the standard stabilization is not perfect, but it can eliminate minor shocks. However, larger shakes and non-smooth movements can already be seen, so we would need a gimbal for the best quality. When the Ultra stabilization mode is turned on, a discreet “Super anti-shake pro” button appears in the corner of the screen. The resolution in this mode changes to 1080p / 60 fps, the stabilization is decent, but the image quality is not very good.
The camera app also offers a number of different filters and styles in video mode, including cinematic with a narrowed portrait image. But the problem is that these video effects and styles are only available in 1080p / 24 fps, which is a shame. To see how Vivo presents itself with the top video quality of this model, they could have chosen at least a 1080p resolution at 60 fps, which would achieve a better smoothness of the video.
The night video is significantly weaker compared to the video shot during the day. Sharpness is noticeably weaker, noise increases, but video stabilization in particular creates slight blurring in certain places.
Battery and charging
Vivo X80 Pro has a 4700 mAh battery with support for 80 W charging using FlashCharge technology. In addition to wired charging, it also supports 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging with unknown power.
As for battery life, the smartphone lasts approximately 1 day on a single charge, but in the evening, in most cases, we still have a little more percentage left than usual. Cable charging takes place as follows:
capacity | time |
---|---|
20 - 50% | 8 minutes and 34 seconds |
75% | 17 minutes and 36 seconds |
90% | 24 minutes and 7 seconds |
100% |
32 minutes and 25 seconds |
The positive thing is that, despite fast charging, the smartphone hardly heats up during this activity.
since Living it uses its own FlashCharge technology, fast charging only works with the original charger that you will find in the package. We tried our 120 W charger from Xiaomi Mix 4, but the Vivo smartphone charged very slowly with it.
The system offers many settings
Vivo X80 Pro runs on the latest Android 12 with Origin OS Ocean graphics superstructure. We fell in love with it immediately when testing previous models from Vivo or iQoo brands. It offers an enormous number of customization options and is graphically handled very well.
On the home screen you will find, for example, the Mood Cube icon, which combines the basic graphics settings of the system. Here we can customize the style and size of the icons, the background, the color of the icons in the control center or even the roundness of the corners of the individual elements. In the settings, we can further customize the charging animation, putting your finger on the reader or connecting the USB-C cable. There is also a dark mode, customization of display colors or detailed notification settings.
However, they are also the stumbling block of the Chinese version of the smartphone this time. Notifications are quite reliable, with a few delayed exceptions, but they are not displayed on the always-on display, as we are used to, for example, from smartphones from Xiaomi. Notifications can only be found on the lock screen or in the notification bar. Since we still use the always-on display, we personally miss them a lot here. The always-on display only shows missed calls or SMS messages.
Another disadvantage of the system is the amount of bloatware in the form of pre-installed Chinese applications from the manufacturer. Some can be uninstalled, but not all. Google applications such as Chrome, YouTube, Gmail and the like are missing, but you can easily install them.
Support of all bands including B20
Unlike many other Chinese versions of smartphones, Vivo X80 Pro supports all 4G bands, including the one most used in villages in Slovakia, 800 MHz, known by the abbreviation B20.
So you don't have to worry about any problems with the signal or the unavailability of a fast 4G connection. It is the same with contactless payments via NFC. The Google Wallet application is not one of the pre-installed ones, but after it is installed and set up, NFC payments work without problems.
Speakers and their quality
Already in one of the first chapters, you may have noticed that when describing the individual elements of the smartphone, we did not mention the second speaker on the upper edge of the smartphone. It is missing here, but its function is replaced by a speaker, which we also use for calls while on the phone.
The quality of the speakers is at a very good level despite the absence of a separate second speaker.
Vivo X80 Pro: Final evaluation
The new flagship model from the workshop of the Chinese brand Vivo, which officially entered the Slovak market this year, bears the model designation X80 Pro. The smartphone pleasantly surprised us, especially in the field of photography, where it clearly ranks among the top on the market. In cooperation with the German company Zeiss and the new Samsung GNV sensor, it was possible to create an excellent photo-smartphone suitable for taking beautiful pictures in all conditions.
The smartphone does not lag behind in terms of performance, which is handled by the processor from Qualcomm, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. You will also be pleased with the beautiful AMOLED display with the panel from Samsung, the modern graphics superstructure of Origin OS with many customizations and support for all networks, including the 4G B20 band.
Unfortunately, since we tested the Chinese version, we didn't avoid a lot of bloatware and notification issues. These are sometimes delayed and do not appear on the always-on display.

Greetings editors, I would like to know if I wanted to order the phone as in your case through Tradingshenzhen, what is the difference between the versions from the warehouse in China or EU delivery? Is it only the delivery time? The difference in prices is quite large and it seems that if one is not in a big hurry, the version from the Chinese warehouse would be more worthwhile, if there are no additional customs fees.
Thanks for the reply and thanks for the review, considering buying it.
Greetings editors, I'm thinking about buying a Viva. I wonder if there is any difference in ordering from Tradingshenzhen in EU delivery or directly from China? Do I mean any additional fees or is there only a difference in delivery time? The difference in price is noticeable. At the same time, I would like to know how the phone with 5G connectivity is doing? Since you ordered phones from China in the past, how is it with software support, is there any difference compared to the Global version?
Thanks for the reply and thanks for the review, have a nice day, Martin.
Greetings. The only difference is in the delivery time and the seller charges significantly higher prices in EU warehouses for comfort. If you don't mind waiting about two weeks, we definitely recommend the Chinese warehouse. We are currently using the Vivo X80 Pro in the newsroom from this seller and everything works as it should. Sometimes it happens that some kind of notification does not come, but we usually only have this problem with Instagram, which also goes crazy on other systems. You need to play with the settings, enable all applications for notifications, auto launch and battery optimization, also see sio these tips to set up Origin OS. The difference compared to the global version is in the system, the global version has a completely different Funtouch OS superstructure, but in our opinion, Origin OS is much better (a lot of customization options, beautiful UI, ...), but you have to take into account Chinese apps that cannot be uninstalled and some parts of the system are not fully translated (calendar, built-in Jovi functions, etc.). Also, the charger has a Chinese terminal, a reduction is needed. It has full 5G connectivity and it is possible to download updates over the internet.
Good day. I have x80pro with origin os and after the last sw update google play stopped working. It can neither be downloaded nor updated. Has it happened to anyone? I tried advice directly from google, which throws it up by itself, but still nothing and I don't want to try the last version of the factory setting yet 🤔 thank you for any tips
You need to go to Account & sync in the settings -> Google basic service management -> Turn off and on the toggle button. This should be done whenever downloading apps stops working. Such information can be found on the XDA forums, Vivo has separate categories there.
Thank you. It's already working 🙏 I'm not very good at forums and since I bought my phone thanks to your website, it was the first thing I thought of to try to ask. Have a nice day
