Content and quality of packaging
The new Roborock Q7 Max + is delivered in a relatively large box measuring 51.4 x 42.9 x 40 cm and weighing 11.7 kg. We appreciate the so-called double packaging, when the original box with descriptions and photos is inserted in another, classic cardboard box for higher protection.
We clearly give the thumbs up for the quality of the packaging, as all individual parts are packed in silon and polystyrene, which completely reduces damage during transport.
At the top of the box is the lower part of the station for automatic emptying, below it is the vacuum cleaner itself and at the bottom is the upper part of the station. Everything in a separate shaped polystyrene nicely stacked on top of each other.
In addition to these main elements, there is only one spare dirt bag, a mop with a cloth and a power cord.
Quality of workmanship and design of the vacuum cleaner
The Roborock brand is one of the most popular among Chinese manufacturers, if not the most popular. The vacuum cleaner is made of plastic, but the quality is at a very good level. Similarly, there is a design that does not bring anything unusual in the circles of robotic vacuum cleaners, but the elegant matte black lands on it.
The upper part is traditionally home to the LiDAR laser system, the cover of which protrudes into the space. Another and actually the only control element on the vacuum cleaner is the three buttons, which are backlit. The left button is used to vacuum the current location, the middle one to switch on or off, and the right button to return home to the charging station.
There are classic bumpers around the perimeter, which are compressible and the vacuum cleaner uses them to discover obstacles. In this case, the dirt and water container is hidden under the lid. It opens upwards, which is not an ideal solution from a design point of view, and we personally prefer a pull-out container from the peripheral edge. It is a combined container for dirt and water, which has a capacity of 470 ml (for dirt) and 350 ml (for water).
The underside is dominated by large rubber wheels and a distinctive red rotating brush. Unlike most competitors, it is rubber and therefore does not contain any bristles. Such a brush is more practical for cleaning and washing, but we will see if it is effective enough in vacuuming.
The same applies to the side brush, which in most such vacuum cleaners has three arms with brushesnami. Here is a 5-pronged brush that, like the main brush, is rubber. There is also a small front wheel and sensors against falling down the stairs.
Docking station
Roborock Q7 Max is a designation for a standard robotic vacuum cleaner, but in our case it is a version of Max +, which has a docking station with an integrated function of automatic emptying of the contents of the vacuum cleaner container. For this reason, the docking station is significantly larger than conventional charging stations.
It consists of two parts that need to be connected with screws. You'll find a screwdriver at the bottom of the station, so you won't need any tools of your own. Assembly is quite simple and everyone can handle it.
In the lower and rear part of the docking station you can see a transparent pipe, through which the dirt is drained from the container in the vacuum cleaner into a disposable bag in the upper part of the docking station.
The package also contains one spare bag with a capacity of 2.5 L. The container in the vacuum cleaner has a capacity of 470 ml, so the bag in the charging station is sufficient for more than 5 emptyings of a completely full container.
Pairing with My Home
The Roborock Q7 Max + robotic vacuum cleaner works with the Mi Home application (Xiaomi Home), which you can find in the Google Play store. We use a modified application, the so-called region free, so if you also own smart devices from Chinese distribution, we recommend using this application to see all your devices. You can find more information about the modified application in our article.
When Bluetooth was turned on in the smartphone, the application immediately found the Roborock Q7 Max + nearby, so we didn't have to look for a vacuum cleaner in the list of devices. Pairing went smoothly within 2 minutes. The process consists of selecting a home WiFi network, temporarily connecting to the vacuum cleaner's WiFi network and selecting the room to which it is to be added.
First vacuuming and home screen application
Before turning it on for the first time, we let the vacuum cleaner charge, as it arrived with a relatively low battery capacity, 37%. In the center of the home screen, where the map of our apartment will later appear, when you first turn it on, there is a "Quick Mapping" button, which in translation means "Quick mapping".
This option is not typical for all robotic vacuum cleaners. Most competing brands are set up so that the first vacuuming also serves to map the space. In this case, the vacuum cleaner first quickly maps the areas, without vacuuming. In our apartment, which is approximately 69 m2 it took 7 minutes.
When this activity is completed, the application will display a map of the space, automatically divided into rooms. In addition to the map, the home screen also shows the map area in m2, battery status in percent and last vacuuming time. Next to the map there is a link for its quick editing, creation of virtual walls or forbidden zones. We can rotate the map here, rename it, but we'll talk about these options later.
Below the map, 3 types of vacuuming have found their place: the whole space, the room or the zones. There is also a setting for suction power and moping level, along with a button to start and empty the vacuum cleaner container. On the home screen, we will find everything we would expect here.
Quality and vacuuming options
The Roborock Q7 Max +, which is actually the successor to the popular S5 Max model, boasts a suction power of 4200 Pa and an improved LiDAR system, which bears the PreciSense label. There are 4 levels of suction available in the application: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo and Max.
These are graded according to performance, which is closely related to noise. We can set the suction level for the whole space, but also manually for each room separately, or leave it to an automated system, which itself evaluates and sets the suction power according to the type of surface.
As for the quality of vacuuming, we are extremely satisfied here. The vacuum cleaner has a beautiful, trouble-free operation, which can also be seen on its routes on the map. In addition, the quality of the vacuum surprised us in a positive sense of the word.
Our vacuuming test is a matter of course, during which we spilled coffee, red lentils and oatmeal on the kitchen tiles, as you can see in the photo below.
Even after the first vacuuming, the result was quite good, but some particles were shot by the side brush to places that the vacuum cleaner had already passed, so we had to release it again. After the second vacuuming, the floor was perfectly clean, which is not often the case with robotic vacuum cleaners. Usually we have to run the vacuum cleaner at least 3 times during this test, even if the result is not always perfect.
What a mop
The manufacturer attracts potential customers to the function of the pressure mop. He should be able to apply a pressure of 300 g, which will improve the efficiency of moping. In this case, the water is not poured into a removable mop with a cloth, but into a container inside the vacuum cleaner, as it is combined.
The external mop, which attaches to the bottom of the vacuum cleaner, contains only a cloth and water hoses. In the application, we have a choice of 4 levels of moping, graded according to the amount of water that the vacuum cleaner dispenses, but you will also enjoy the fifth option called Custom. Here we can precisely select the amount of water on a scale from 1 to 30.
Of course, our review must not lack a real punishment for the quality of moping. So we spilled milk, cocoa and water diluted with food coloring on the kitchen floor. We let it all dry overnight so we could test the moping in these difficult conditions in the morning. This is what it looked like before mopping started:
We set the level of moping to the highest one (number 30 in Custom mode), but the result after the first moping was quite weak. The vacuum cleaner only rubbed larger stains on the floor and even after the second or third attempt, the floor was not completely clean. The biggest problem was Roborock Q7 Max + with dried milk, but he didn't even remove the cocoa.
Sophisticated 3D maps with a choice of floor type or furniture
The new robotic vacuum cleaner from Roborock can remember 4 maps and also automatically recognize where it is. Since we tested it in the apartment, we did not use this option. However, we have tried the map editing options, which are quite varied.
The basic options are the well-known No-Go Zones that the vacuum cleaner should omit during operation, virtual walls or moping zones, which are mainly used to skip carpets during mopping.
We can name each room by its own name, but in this case you can also define the type of floor, even if there is only wood and tiles to choose from, or a preset, undefined floor.
We can also add furniture to the map, where you will find beds, sofas, armchairs, TV tables, a dining table, a bedside table, a wardrobe and several others. These are then displayed on the map on the home screen.
You will also be pleased with the choice of the order in which the vacuum cleaner will pass through the individual rooms, which is not common with other brands such as Dreame or Viomi. The settings in the application also offer scheduling of vacuuming at a specific time and day with the possibility of repetition, spot vacuuming of a specified place, remote control using directional buttons or joystick, as well as activity history.
Additional settings
There are also several adjustments related to the vacuum cleaner itself in the settings. This includes turning off the backlight of the buttons when fully charged, automatically increasing the power when vacuuming carpets, or a child lock that locks all the buttons on the vacuum cleaner.
There is also a do not disturb mode, which we can set in the time interval when it should be turned on. In this mode, the automatic emptying of the dust container is switched off, the voice announcements are muted and the LED backlight is dimmed.
Automatic emptying offers four different modes, divided according to how often the container will be emptied in the vacuum cleaner:
- Smart - intelligent, automatic emptying as required
- Light - suitable for smaller households and less polluted areas, where dirt sometimes remains in the vacuum cleaner container even during several vacuumings
- Balanced - suitable for medium-sized households with optimal settings
- Max - for larger and more polluted areas, where it is necessary to dump dirt frequently
There are a lot of settings and not every robotic vacuum cleaner offers so many options for adjusting various parameters.
Endurance, charging and noise
Roborock Q7 Max + has a 5200 mAh battery, which according to the manufacturer should be enough for 180 minutes of operation or 300 m2 vacuuming or 240 m2 mopping. We were able to vacuum our apartment in Balanced mode up to 6 times during our endurance test. During the seventh vacuum, the battery was discharged, so the vacuum cleaner walked a total of 233 m2 and it took him 200 minutes.
For comparison, at the maximum suction power in Max mode, we vacuumed our apartment only almost 3 times. The vacuum cleaner returned to recharge the flashlight just before the end of the third vacuuming, so it crossed 104 m2 in 90 minutes. Charging takes about 5 hours.
As for the noise, it of course depends on the selected mode, as higher suction power also brings with it higher noise.
- Quiet mode: 53 dB
- Balanced: 56 dB
- Turbo: 61 dB
- Max: 72 dB
- Emptying: 80 dB
Roborock Q7 Max +: Final evaluation
The new Roborock Q7 Max + robotic vacuum cleaner is a direct successor to the popular Roborock S5 Max and we must admit that it is a very successful model. It offers a suction power of 4200 Pa, a rubber rotating brush and also a station for automatic emptying of the vacuum cleaner.
The vacuum quality is really high and you will also enjoy the many customization options in the Mi Home application. There are no forbidden zones, division or connection of rooms, choice of level for vacuuming and moping, also separately for each room and much more.

The downside is perhaps the weaker, average mop, which doesn't stand out. Otherwise, we were extremely satisfied with this model and we can recommend it with a clear conscience to anyone who is interested in a quality robotic vacuum cleaner from the current generation for 2022.
