Content and quality of packaging
The SAMEBIKE LO26-II electric bicycle was delivered to us by DPD courier in a large box with dimensions of 147 x 24 x 69 cm and weighing approximately 30 kg. Although the box is made of strong and thick cardboard, it did not hold together very well.
The opening parts of the box were fixed with metal clipsnami, which, however, fell out and it was not long before the box opened from the bottom. With this type of product, it is best if the entire box is covered with plastic tape, which we unfortunately lacked here.
Nevertheless, the bike arrived without any damage, as it is protected by a really large amount of protective material. Perhaps every part of the bicycle frame was protected by a layer of foam film.
In addition to the bike, the box includes tools for assembly, mudguards, a charger and an instruction manual. We especially praise the fact that the manufacturer used a lot of protective material throughout the bike. Not every bike is packed with such high quality.
Assembly of the bicycle
The SAMEBIKE LO26-II electric e-bike is packed in a box like most other bikes, electric or not. The front wheel is stored next to the bike, clipped to the frame, similar to the handlebars. In the box next to the bike, we also find pedals and mudguards.
After we removed all the packaging materials, we started assembling the handlebars into the stem. The bolts were already ready in the stem, so we just removed them from there, inserted the stem and secured it with an Allen key. We didn't tighten them all the way, as we still wanted to adjust their angle when the whole bike was assembled.
We continued by attaching the wheel to the front fork. Here again, as with other bikes, a solid, transport axle is pre-attached to protect the fork from deformation during transport. We then inserted the included axle into the wheel, inserted it into the fork and tightened it with a quick release.
Next, we fixed the front light in place and attached the pedals. Here, we like that we have a nice display on the cranks which way to turn the threads to fix the pedals correctly. Do not forget that the left pedal has the opposite thread so that it does not come loose while turning the pedals.
The last step is to put the seat in place and tighten it with a quick release. You can continue by assembling the fenders, but since we weren't going to get into the rain with the bike, we personally skipped this step. The front fender mounts to the bolt that holds the headlight and the rear fender mounts to the seat tube.
Handlebars and display
The handlebars of the SAMEBIKE LO26-II electric mountain bike have a width of 68 cm and rubber grips, which unfortunately do not hold too well on the handlebars and turn slightly.
On the left side we find the rear brake lever, horn mode control and derailleur shifter, while on the right side there is the front brake lever, rear derailleur shifter and plastic throttle stick. There are 21 gears (3 x 7), but as for the shifting itself, we only have a very basic one, one of the cheapest models from Shimano.
There is also a large LCD display in the center of the handlebars, which is colored by the way. The graphic design of the display is not very modern, but nevertheless this display is excellent. It contains all the information we need.
Its readability in the sun is average, which means that the brightness could be higher, but many bicycles and scooters have a worse readable display than in this case.
In the center of the display we see the current speed, the selected mode and the current power in Watts. In the upper corner there is a display of the battery status with the current voltage. In the lower part, it shows the driving time, the distance covered for the current ride, the total number of kilometers traveled and the current current.
The display also has a hidden menu, which you can get to by holding both the up and down arrow keys. Here you can set the display brightness, speed units, speed limit, start from zero or reset the odometer.
Performance and driving modes
SAMEBIKE LO26-II was available in a weaker, 500 W version, but if you are interested in more power, it is also sold with a 750 W motor. In both versions, it reaches a maximum speed of 35 km/h in the highest mode.
We have a choice of 5 modes, which are graded according to the maximum speed (15 / 20 / 25 / 35 km/h), with the first mode being without electric assistance. As for the overall performance, it is completely sufficient and the acceleration is also very good. It also handles hills very well.
Similar to other Chinese electric bikes, here too we have a choice whether to dose the gas with the lever on the handlebars or to twist the pedals, while the bike doses the power itself according to the selected mode.
The electric drive works in the same way as other Chinese electric bicycles, so after a few turns of the pedals, the electric motor is activated, but it takes so much that we often turn the pedals completely empty, without engagement.
The strange thing is that if we stop turning the pedals, we have to do significantly more pedal turns to reactivate the electric drive compared to starting from scratch, when the motor activates much faster.
Suspension, brakes and comfort while driving
SAMEBIKE LO26-II is a full-suspension e-bike, so in addition to the front spring fork, we also find a rear, also spring-loaded shock absorber. The front fork belongs to the basic models, but at least it doesn't knock when driving over bumps. Knocking is heard only occasionally in difficult terrain. There is also the option of locking the fork, for example when driving on asphalt.
Unfortunately, we have to admit that the rear shock absorber is more or less useless. It is too rigid and its presence is almost not felt during driving. Overall, however, this bike is quite comfortable to ride, beyond our expectations. The seat, which suits us personally, also contributes to the comfort.
As usual, we also have disc brakes here, but only classic mechanical ones with a cable. They brake well, but they whistle rather significantly. The wheels are only 26 inches, and since the frame is not very tall or long, the bike is more comfortable for shorter riders. Our editor is 185cm tall and would rather have a bigger frame and 29″ wheels.
Frame and folding
The bicycle frame is made of aluminum, but it is not a classic bicycle frame. SAMEBIKE LO26-II is a folding mountain bike, so the frame is not integral. The battery is stored in the upper frame tube, which is therefore significantly thick. It is precisely in it that the folding joint is located, which, from our point of view, is the biggest stumbling block of this bike.
The problem is that while riding, this joint makes an unpleasant creaking sound, which spoils the whole impression of the bike. At the same time, this place appears to be the weakest point of the bike. Honestly, since this joint is even wider than the frame tube, we have occasionally hit the inside of our knee on this joint while pedaling off-road.
To assemble the bike, just unlock the lever in the frame joint, which also contains a small fuse. The bike is then simply folded in half and rested on the metal stand at the bottom. However, this stand is quite large and we sometimes bumped it against larger stones in the field.
Despite the fact that it is a mountain bike, it is not quite adapted to any terrain. However, it can handle easy terrain in the form of ordinary forest or field paths without any problems.
Battery and range
As we already mentioned, the battery is located in the frame. It has 48 V, 10 Ah and is removable. After assembling the bike, just unlock it with the key and pull it out. We appreciate that the end of the battery is glued with foam, which protects it from hitting the inner part of the frame.
Charging takes almost 5 hours and you can charge the battery on or off the bike. When charging in the frame, however, we had a problem with inserting the terminal from the charger into the battery. The hole in the frame is not very precise, so the port in the battery is somewhat on the edge of this hole, which makes it difficult or impossible to connect the charger when the battery is in the frame.
The manufacturer indicates a range per charge of 30-40 km in purely electric mode or 70-80 km in pedal-assisted mode. Since it is a full-suspension mountain bike, we decided to test the range in the field.
We went from Košice to the Hrešná cottage, from where we continued through the Alpinka recreation center back to the city. Most of the time we drove exclusively with the electric drive in the highest mode. We used the pedals to help the bike only on some steep hills.
We used the Runkeeper application on a smartphone to measure the mileage. In total, we traveled 28.8 km per charge, which is not bad at all, considering that we only have a 10 Ah battery here.
SAMEBIKE LO26-II: Final evaluation
The SAMEBIKE LO26-II electric mountain bike impresses at first glance with its unconventional design with full suspension and wheels with six spokes. It offers sufficient power of 500 W with a maximum speed of 35 km/h.
It will also please you with a fairly good range. Despite the fact that the battery is only 10 Ah, we were able to travel with it up to 28.8 km in the field almost exclusively with electric drive. We must also praise the display, which, although its design does not stand out in any way, displays all the important information.
Among the negatives, we rank the weaker construction of the frame, especially in the folding joint, from which an unpleasant creak can be heard. Furthermore, we only have very basic components such as cheap Shimano gearshifts or mechanical disc brakes. The suspension is also quite weak, especially the rear, as it is too stiff.
