Content and quality of packaging
The Roborock brand always packs its vacuum cleaners twice, and this is no different. The product box is also protected by another classic cardboard box with cutouts for easier portability. The package with dimensions of 444 x 398 x 135 mm and weighing 12.5 kg was brought to us by DPD courier.
The inside of the package also maintains a high level of protection, as the vacuum cleaner itself and the docking station and accessories are stored in shaped cartons so that nothing is damaged during transport.
In addition to the main components of the package mentioned above, we also find an instruction manual, a power cable, a mop with a cloth and a spare dust bag.
The quality of the packaging is high, and in terms of content, we can find everything we need here.
Design and quality of workmanship
The design of the Roborock Q8 Max+ does not stand out or differ from ordinary robotic vacuum cleaners. It has a classic circular shape with an LDS system in the upper part and three buttons. These are used to turn on / off the vacuum cleaner, return home and vacuum the current location where the vacuum cleaner is located.
Around the perimeter there is a standard bumper, a retractable combined container for dirt and water, as well as a sensor of the Reactive Tech system, which takes care of avoiding obstacles during vacuuming.
In the lower part, there is a three-arm whisk, rubber wheels, sensors against falling down the stairs, charging connectors and, in this case, a pair of rotating brushes. Both are rubber and are housed in a plastic frame that is flexible, thanks to which the Roborock Q8 Max+ can slightly adapt to the surface during vacuuming.
Docking station for self-emptying
The novelty also includes a docking station for automatic emptying of the vacuum cleaner, where the contents of its dust container are vacuumed and transferred to a pocket in the docking station. The pocket is located in the upper part under a black plastic lid with a practical handle for gripping.
The volume of the bag is 2.5L and is disposable. Unfortunately, we only find one spare bag in the package, you have to buy another one separately. After the vacuum cleaner returns to the docking station, suction is turned on according to the selected settings. Dirt is sucked from the underside from where the rotary brushes are.
The dust then flows through the tube in the lower part of the docking station to the upper part, where there is a textile bag.
First turn on and pair with the application
The new Roborock Q8 Max+ works with the Roborock application, or even with Xiaomi Home. We chose the Roborock app, as we also used it for the other vacuum cleaners we tested.
The application recognizes the vacuum cleaner as soon as it is turned on and offers to add it. The following steps lead to connecting to the Wi-Fi network of the vacuum cleaner, which will pair with the home Wi-Fi network and the rest will happen automatically.
In the next step, the application guides us through the basic settings, where it asks whether we will be vacuuming multiple floors, whether we want to turn on obstacle avoidance, and also guides us through the basic principles of positioning the docking station.
As is usual with new models, the first discovery of the premises does not have to be associated with vacuuming. If we only start a quick scan of the rooms, the vacuum cleaner will go through individual rooms within a few minutes and create an initial map.
We tested the vacuum cleaner in a three-room apartment, where we have a free floor area for vacuuming of approximately 31 m2 with high thresholds to the bathroom and toilet, where the robotic vacuum cleaner cannot reach. We are still waiting for a model that will overcome an obstacle higher than 2 cm, since our thresholds are only a few millimeters higher.
Vacuuming and mopping modes
The home screen of the application offers an up-to-date map with all the basic settings of the suction levels that are available. Roborock Q8 Max+ can vacuum, mop or do both at the same time. We have a maximum suction power of up to 5500 Pa and a pair of rotating brushes in the lower part.
When vacuuming, we have a choice of five levels: Queit, Balanced, Turbo, Max and Max+. These levels are graded by suction power from weakest to strongest.
When mopping, we can choose one of six options. The first is to turn off mopping and the other four define the amount of water used from the lowest to the highest wetting. There is also a Custom option, where we can choose the level of water use on a scale from 1 to 30.
The last setting is the route selection, which can be standard or fast. The fast option involves less thorough vacuuming and mopping, where the vacuum cleaner skips the edges of the rooms, thus saving some time.
As for the suction speed, our 31 m2 the vacuum cleaner goes through in about 30 minutes.
Map customization
After the first space mapping, the application automatically divides the area into individual rooms, which are distinguished by color. In our case, the automatic division worked quite reliably, but since we have a living room connected to the kitchen, we intervened in the division manually, where we divided these spaces.
In addition to the possibility of connecting and dividing rooms, the map editing menu also offers the possibility of naming them with your own name, adding prohibited zones, invisible walls or changing the sequence during vacuuming.
There is also the option of adding furniture to the map or choosing the type of floor.
Vacuum quality
Similar to the reviews of other robotic vacuum cleaners, this time too we subjected the new model from the Roborock brand to our vacuum quality test. We spread coffee, flour, red lentils and oatmeal on the kitchen floor.
We set the vacuuming program to the highest mode, MAX+, and sent it to vacuum only a specific room, the kitchen. Surprisingly, it completely vacuumed up all the dirt, except for one lentil grain, and that was the first time.
With other robotic vacuum cleaners, it usually happened to us that the side brush piled up larger particles of dirt in those places that the vacuum cleaner had already passed. Here, it happened with just one single bead, and so the Roborock Q8 MAX+ ranks at the very top of our imaginary ranking of vacuuming quality.
The strong suction power of up to 5500 Pa thus probably played its role.
Moping quality
Even in the case of mopping, we checked its quality. Since we don't have any advanced features like a vibrating mop or cloth cleaning station, we didn't have high expectations.
We stained the kitchen floor again with coffee, juice and water mixed with food coloring. After drying overnight, we chose the highest level of mopping and watched how the vacuum cleaner copes with a classic mop.
As you can see in the photos, the Roborock Q8 Max+ without a vibrating mop cannot cope with dried dirt at all. The second time, however, the floor was almost perfectly clean. However, it also helped us that the vacuum cleaner always turned on the brown stain, so it cleaned such a place more thoroughly.
Avoiding obstacles
Roborock Q8 Max+ has the ReactiveTech function, thanks to which it can effectively avoid obstacles during vacuuming. So if we suddenly step in the way of the vacuum cleaner, or if we put any obstacle in front of it, it will go around this obstacle beautifully.
It can do it thanks to the sensor in the front part, but it is not a completely perfect solution. Despite this function, he can move some small objects like children's toys in front of him.
Battery and endurance
The new mid-range model has a 5200 mAh battery, which should be enough for 240 minutes of vacuuming in silent mode or 300 m2. During our testing, we tried several different modes to monitor battery capacity.
In vacuuming mode with the Quiet level, the battery capacity dropped by 10%, with the Balanced mode the battery was drained by 12%, while at the Turbo level it was 18%. It was also 18% with simultaneous vacuuming in Turbo mode and the Medium mopping level. When vacuuming at the MAX level and with water at the High level, the battery drop was more significant, specifically by 29%.
When the battery drops below 20%, the vacuum cleaner stops its operation, returns to recharge and later continues its operation.
Setting options
The Roborock application offers its users a fairly wide range of different settings. In addition to the classic ones, which we already wrote about above, here we can find, for example, scheduling of vacuuming or mopping for a certain day / time with possible repetition, cleaning along the floor covering, or setting the frequency of automatic emptying.
There is also a child lock, turning off the backlight of the buttons, increasing the performance when vacuuming carpets, do not disturb mode, charging during the night current or remote control.
In the settings, we can also find the history of all vacuum cleaner activities, the percentage status of individual components or sharing the device with other users, most often with household members.
Roborock Q8 Max +: Final evaluation
The new mid-range model, the Roborock Q8 Max+ has very interesting parameters, some of which are also taken over from the flagship models. The high suction power of 5500 Pa, the station for automatic emptying, a pair of rotating brushes and the Reactive Tech technology, thanks to which it effectively avoids obstacles, will please you in particular.
The best coupons for Roborock Q8 Max and Q8 Max+
The quality of vacuuming in this case is really high and it clearly ranks among the best models in this regard. Despite the fact that the Roborock Q8 Max+ does not have a vibrating mop, it cleans the floor very well.
The high-quality Roborock app also contributes to a positive overall experience of using this model. If you are thinking about a robotic vacuum cleaner with a docking station for automatic emptying, this novelty is definitely worth considering.
