Content and quality of packaging
The IENYRID scooter came to us by DPD courier in a box with dimensions of 120 x 25 x 49.5 cm and a weight of 29.94 kg. The box was also tied with a pair of plastic straps, thanks to which it is easier to carry.
Inside is an assembled scooter that is more or less ready to ride after removing the box and packaging materials. There is quite a lot of foam padding around the scooter, so it is very well protected in the box.
Nevertheless, the rear fender of the scooter was quite scratched, but this damage looks more like a manufacturing defect. Honestly, slight imperfections are quite common for such Chinese scooters.
In the package with the scooter we also find a nicely packed set of tools, a saddle, a user manual and a charger with both an English and a European terminal.
Assembling and preparing for the first ride
As we already mentioned, the scooter is not disassembled in the box. It is only folded by default, so you can fold it at any time. The only component that needs to be installed is the front light. All you need for this activity is an Allen key and one included screw.
After removing all packaging materials and attaching the front light, just unfold the handlebars and flip the scooter. We will also find a pair of keys on the scooter, which you will need to turn it on.
However, we recommend that you check and tighten the screws that hold the display, push button controller, and handlebar brakes. In our case, they were quite loose, that is, they did not hold firmly on the handlebars at all. At least this is how we set them up according to our needs.
Quality of workmanship and design
The IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max electric scooter looks very attractive and robust at first glance. Of course, its design is very similar to other Chinese scooters with similar performance, but its design is complemented by some color-differentiated components that immediately attract attention.
It is made of aluminum alloy and the processing is at a very good level. Height-adjustable handlebars, a saddle and a pair of brakes will please you. We will deal with individual components in more detail in separate chapters.
Saddle or foot step
A great step by the manufacturer is the choice between the saddle and the foot step, which is left up to the customer. The base for the seat is attached to the scooter from the factory.
Since we personally are not big fans of the seats on these scooters, we decided to immediately replace it with a step. It will then also serve as a handle for easier handling of the scooter, if we need to take it up the stairs, for example.
All tools for replacement are included with the scooter. We started by removing the rear fender, which is held in place by four screws. You don't have to dismantle it, but it slightly impairs access to the nuts that hold the base of the saddle. Just remove the four screws that hold this base and replace it with a step.
Height adjustable handlebars
The handlebars are 61 cm wide and adjustable in height between 100 and 125 cm. Since our editor is 185 cm tall, the height-adjustable handlebars with such a range and width were definitely pleasing.
On the left side we find the brake lever for the rear brake, the controller for turning on the lights and turn signals, together with the horn, and on the right side the lever for the front brake and a display with an integrated throttle control lever. It is a classic system with a display, as we know it from many Chinese scooters.
The display is round and rather difficult to read in direct sunlight. Many times during the drives, we saw almost nothing on it. Next to it, we find only a pair of buttons. One for on and off and the other for switching between modes.
Since the handlebars are folding and not fixed, this manifests itself in a slight play during driving. In addition, they are also height adjustable, and these places are also the source of a slight squeak that occurs when you push against the handlebars, especially when driving over bumps.
Also available is the so-called "mode P" where some settings can be changed. We get to it by simultaneously pressing both mentioned buttons.
Tires, brakes and suspension
The IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max scooter has wide, 10-inch off-road tires. As for the brakes, they are disc brakes, but mechanical, not hydraulic. However, the brake levers are relatively easy to press and their efficiency is not bad at all.
In our case, the brakes are still just running in and even if they are not among the top brakes, they brake quite well. The brake calipers also have an attractive red color. However, from production, the front brake pad was rubbing against the disc, but it is enough to slightly adjust the position of the caliper.
A striking element on the scooter that immediately attracts attention are the rear orange shock absorbers. There are two of them, they have a spring inside them and they work quite well.
At the front, we also find a pair of springs in the suspension fork. The overall ride with the scooter is comfortable, but if we go over larger bumps at higher speed, there is a knocking sound from the front, as in this case the shock absorbers reach their limits.
Powerful engine at the back
The IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max has an 800 W motor in the rear wheel. Thanks to it, we can reach a maximum speed of up to 45 km/h. However, there is a preset mode that limits the maximum speed to 25 km/h. We can easily switch to the maximum power mode using the M button, which must be pressed 5 times in a row (not too quickly).
Realistically, however, to reach the maximum speed of 45 km/h, we need a long straight. In most cases, we drove around the city at a maximum speed of around 41 km/h.
Acceleration from zero is quite good, but it deteriorates above 35 km/h. Since we rode around Košice and the surrounding area with the scooter, we did not avoid many hills, which the scooter could manage, but on the steeper ones it slowed down significantly (sometimes even to 15 km/h). Overall, we could of course imagine a higher performance for such a scooter, but that would also be reflected in the price.
Battery and range on one charge
The electric scooter from IENYRID has a pretty decent 48 V / 20 Ah battery. The manufacturer indicates a range of 40-75 km per charge, which sounds quite attractive.
Of course, we checked the range, as we do with all electric scooters. We measured our route not only using the display on the scooter itself, but also through the Runkeeper application on the smartphone, since distance measurement via GPS is definitely more accurate.
We drove in the streets of Košice and also in the surrounding villages. We drove the first 25 km outside the city, so most of the time we drove at full throttle, at maximum speed. So we didn't skimp on the scooter at all. We didn't avoid steep hills either.
On one charge, we traveled 41 km according to the scooter and 35.37 km according to the Runkeeper application. We didn't even reach the lower limit specified by the manufacturer, but it's not a bad value for our driving style.
But we were disappointed by the graphic battery status indicator on the scooter's display. This does not reflect the real situation at all, since the real capacity was already below half for four out of five parts and subsequently the parts decreased very quickly. Because of this, we completely drained the scooter during our range test and didn't even make it back home as we were guided by this battery status display.
Folding and lighting
Of course, we can take down the IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max scooter at any time. The folding system is similar to many other scooters. After unscrewing the locking nuts, both sides of the handlebars can be folded down towards the center bar.
Then just unlock the small fuse next to the orange tab, press it and the handlebars will fold down towards the rear fender. In such a position, we can store or transport the scooter somewhere.
In addition to the front and rear standard lighting, we also find direction indicators in the rear, on the sides of the foot platform. They consist of several LEDs that light up gradually, creating a kind of effect also known from newer cars.
However, IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max has one more bonus. This is the colored backlighting of the entire platform from both sides, where we can see the LED strips from below. They flash in different colors and after dark everyone will definitely notice you thanks to this backlight. Unfortunately, we haven't figured out how to turn this backlight off.
IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max: Final evaluation
The electric scooter IENYRID M4 Pro S+ Max impresses at first sight with its attractive design and its price just under 500 EUR. It offers an 800 W rear motor, a 48 V / 20 Ah battery, a maximum speed of up to 45 km/h, front and rear suspension, a pair of disc brakes and effective backlighting.
We had a very pleasant ride with this scooter. Although it does not belong to the terrain, it offers a comfortable ride with sufficient performance on ordinary asphalt or sidewalks.
Perhaps the only thing we didn't like was the battery status indicator on the display, which does not reflect the real status. However, we can also follow the current battery voltage, as the display also shows this information. For a price just under 500 EUR, it is definitely a very attractive model.
