Content and quality of packaging
The Eleglide M2 electric bicycle was brought to us by DPD courier in a box measuring 148 x 24 x 77 cm and weighing 27.5 kg. The box was covered with three straps, so it was relatively easy to carry.
Inside, the partially disassembled bicycle is protected by a lot of packaging material and polystyrene. Thanks to this, the bike was in excellent condition with no damage. On the other side, namiesto styrofoam we would have welcomed only foam reinforcements because the styrofoam was scattered throughout the box.
In addition to the bike itself, the package also includes a pair of smaller boxes. In one there is a charger and in the other pedals, reflectors, tools and grips for electric control without assistance.
Assembly of the bicycle
As we mentioned before, like other electric bikes, the Eleglide M2 also requires partial assembly before first use. The frame is in a box without the front wheel, pedals, handlebars and front light.
So we started by attaching the front wheel. Here we first had to remove the protective plastic and the metal rod. We put the front wheel in its place and tightened the nuts. We appreciate that the manufacturer used a solid axle with nuts namiesto quick release.
We then inserted the handlebars into the stem, which first had to be aligned to the correct position. We continued with attaching the front and rear lights and pedals. Do not forget that the left pedal has the opposite thread.
An unconventional part of the installation was the fixing of the reflectors to the spokes of the wheels. These are mostly already mounted in the wheel.
Quality of workmanship and design
At first glance, the Eleglide M2 electric hardtail has a very good design. The black frame with red and gray elements looks really good.
As for the quality of the workmanship, it is made of aluminum and the quality of the welds looks good. The manufacturer states that it is suitable for a rider height of 160-195 cm, which is a very wide range that cannot be covered by one frame size. If you look at the size charts of different manufacturers, you will find that for a height of 160 cm the frame is size M and for 195 even up to XL.
The frame of the Eleglide M2 bike is therefore more suitable for shorter figures. Our editor is 185 cm and for such a height the frame is a bit short and short.
Handlebars and display
The handlebars are 68 cm wide, which is nice. On the left side is the front brake, front gear and LCD display. It has a diagonal of 1.75″ and displays the current speed, the selected mode, and the distance traveled. It also has "+" and "-" buttons on the front tent and others in the lower and upper parts.
The right side of the handlebar is the place for the rear brake lever, the rear derailleur and the classic bell. The wiring runs from the handlebars to the outside of the frame, which is normal for a bike in this price range.
Due to the fact that the Eleglide M2 is also sold in the European market, it has classic rubberized grips installed from the factory without any throttle control lever. However, we also find spare grips in the package to solve this problem.
Driving modes and performance
The Eleglide M2 electric bike offers 5 modes graded according to the increasing maximum speed, namely 12 / 16 / 20 / 23 / 25 km/h. The motor is located at the rear and has a nominal power of 250 W with a maximum short-term peak of 570 W.
As we already mentioned in the previous chapter, in the basic composition it only has assisted modes, which means that the electric motor is activated only during pedaling. We have no lever for manual throttle control like other Chinese bikes.
However, the manufacturer solves this with spare grips in the package, one of which has a rotating part that is used to dose the gas without pedal assistance. Just change the grips and plug the right one into the free connector.
Later during testing, we discovered that we can increase the maximum speed to approximately 32 km/h through hidden settings, the so-called P-settings. The manufacturer does not inform about this option either on its website or in the user manual. We can get to the hidden settings by holding down the "+" and "-" buttons at the same time, and the P3 option is used to change the maximum speed, where we can set a maximum of 32 km/h.
Eleglide app
A not entirely common feature of electric bicycles is Bluetooth technology, thanks to which we can pair the Eleglide M2 with a smartphone using the Eleglide application.
The application does not require registration and adding a bike is very fast. All you have to do is turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone, search for nearby devices and choose the M2 bike. The only problem is the password that the app requires when connecting, which the manufacturer somehow forgot to include in the user manual. If you were to buy this bike, the password for initial pairing is: 000000 (six zeros).
The home screen of the application shows the current speed, distance traveled, battery status in percentage, and also offers several settings. Using it, we can set the driving mode, turn the lights on or off, change the speed units, increase the speed to 32 km/h, set the display brightness or start from zero (so-called zero start).
Range on one charge
The Eleglide M2 has a 36 V / 15 Ah / 540 Wh battery, with which, according to the manufacturer, we should travel up to 125 km at a constant speed of 15 km/h with a 75 kg rider at a temperature of 26 °C.
We tested the bike with a rider weighing 78 kg and at first with a maximum speed of 25 km/h, as only later we found out that we can increase the speed to 32 km/h.
We drove in Košice and the surrounding villages with the Runkeeper application on the smartphone for distance tracking. We went in assisted mode with the original grips, as it is from the factory. However, we only turned the pedals at idle and drove until we were almost completely exhausted. This way, we covered up to 61.24 km on one charge, while the bicycle display showed an almost identical figure, 62 km.
It is not 125 km, but we did not go at a speed of 15 km/h. Nevertheless, it is an excellent range that exceeded our expectations. For comparison, with the recently tested SAMEBIKE LO-26 II we traveled only 28 km per charge and with the Eleglide M1 Plus approximately 46 km.
Before the second test, we replaced the right grip with a spare one, which we already wrote about above. It contains a rotary throttle, so during this test we hardly turned the pedals at all. At the same time, we increased our speed to 32 km/h, and we traveled 46.53 km until the battery was almost completely discharged.
After unlocking the battery with a key, we can simply disconnect it from the bicycle frame and charge it separately. Charging takes about 9 hours.
Suspension, tires and comfort while driving
As for the suspension, we have a classic spring hydraulic fork up front, but it's not bad at all. Many cheap bike forks rattle when going over bumps, but this one doesn't. The ride is quite comfortable, so we managed longer routes without any problems.
Tires are 27.5″ x 2.4″. With our height of 185 cm, we would rather welcome 29″ wheels, but we are still better off than most Chinese e-bikes, which only have 26″ wheels.
The saddle is also good and comfortable, so overall we rate the comfort while riding positively, although we felt that this frame was a little small for us and especially short for our height.
Shifting, lighting and brakes
The other equipment of the Eleglide M2 electric bike is also a huge plus. The manufacturer did not reach for the cheapest components, so we can finally enjoy better shifting with the help of levers. We have 3 gears at the front, while there are 8 at the back. That's 24 gears in total, and shifting is seamless.
Brakes are disc, and also hydraulic. However, the brake levers are not as easy to press as we expected, compared to other hydraulic brakes, but their efficiency is good.
The lighting is sufficient even for driving at night, but it is a pity that there is no rear light. In the back, we only have a classic red reflector, which is quite incomprehensible for electric bicycles, but unfortunately it is like this for most of them.
Eleglide M2: Final evaluation
The Eleglide M2 electric bike caught our attention at first glance at its specifications before the official launch of sales. We have to admit that it did not disappoint us and even after real testing we are very satisfied with it. Although it only offers a standard power of 250 W, it impresses with better components and an attractive design.
Hydraulic disc brakes, a good spring fork and modern gear shifting ensure a significantly better riding experience compared to most other bikes at a similar price.
The icing on the cake is the great range on a single charge, when we covered up to 25 km at a maximum speed of 61 km/h. The only negatives are the smaller frame, more suitable for shorter figures, and the absence of backlighting.
