Content and quality of packaging
The Bogist M5 Pro scooter was brought to us by DPD courier in a box with dimensions of 1160 x 235 x 595 mm and a weight of 29.6 kg. The box was covered with a pair of plastic straps, so it is easy to carry.
Once opened, there is a layer of foam reinforcement on top along the entire length of the box. The scooter comes in a box with the handlebars removed and folded down and is protected by various foam reinforcements and polystyrene on each side. The manufacturer packed this scooter very precisely. It's just a pity that small particles of polystyrene were scattered all over the box and the scooter.
Molded polystyrene firmly held the front and rear wheels from the bottom and top. In addition to the scooter, we also found an instruction manual, a seat, a basket, a set of tools, a charger with a reduction for English plugs and a plastic holder for a smartphone in the box.
Folding the scooter
After removing all the polystyrene and packaging materials, we started assembling the scooter. As we already mentioned, the scooter has the handlebars dismantled in the box. In addition to them, we also had to fix the seat and the rear basket.
However, it is nothing complicated. Just insert the handlebars into the stem and fasten them with a quick release. We then inserted the included rod into the seat from the bottom side and secured the nuts on both sides using a spanner. After that, it is enough to insert the bar with the seat into the structure and fasten it again with a sleeve with a quick-release clamp.
The whole process is simple and you can do it yourself within a few minutes.
Quality of workmanship and design
The Bogist M5 Pro electric scooter has a significantly different design from most of the scooters we have tested in the past. Its construction is aluminum, massive, and it also includes a seat. The frame for the seat is fixed here, so it is a scooter that is intended for riding exclusively while sitting.
We assume that such a design will appeal to older generations, but riding while sitting is quite interesting. The large, 12″ wheels are also impressive at first glance.
The lower foot platform is quite wide and measures approximately 22 x 41 cm. Unfortunately, the platform is only plastic and bends slightly at the ends, but it has a very good grip in the form of a material similar to sandpaper.
Since the seat is also quite wide, it forces us to have our legs slightly apart when sitting. For that reason, we could also imagine a slightly wider platform for the feet. At the same time, it could be a little longer for taller figures.
Handlebars with display
The handlebars are among the wider ones and are specifically 58 cm. On the left side we have the brake lever for the rear brake, light controller with horn and key ignition with a display to show the current battery voltage. The manufacturer includes a pair of keys with the scooter.
On the right side is the brake lever of the front brake and a smaller display. It displays several data such as the current speed, mode, distance traveled and the battery symbol with a graphic display of its status using ten segments.
The display has a quite tasteful design, but its visibility outside is very poor. In direct sunlight, we mostly saw nothing at all on the display.
And where is the throttle? The Bogist M5 Pro scooter has a so-called motorcycle gas controller, integrated in the right grip. So we regulate the power by turning the first grip on the handlebars. It is easy to handle and we personally like this solution.
Brakes and wheels
At first glance, the large 12-inch wheels, which are only 2 inches larger compared to regular electric scooter wheels, but look significantly larger at first glance. These are classic wheels with tubes.
The dimensions of the tires are 12,5 x 2.75 / 62-203 and they are really very comfortable. Riding a scooter with such large wheels is noticeably different compared to the classic 10″.
As for the brakes, they are disc, mechanical. The brake levers are therefore not as easy to press as in the case of hydraulic brakes, but their use is problem-free.
In addition, the reels have a very interesting design that catches the eye at first glance. However, the brake calipers are not among the best. They brake in such a way that when the lever is pressed, the brake disc from one side pushes against the disc, thereby pressing it against the opposite side. These are not standard brakes with a pair of discs,
As for their effectiveness, it is surprisingly very good. The brakes react well and even during emergency braking, when someone runs into your path, they will hold you.
Performance and driving modes
We have 3 driving modes available, graduated according to the maximum speed, while the highest mode with the number 3 has a maximum of 40 km/h. We rarely reached such a speed, mostly on very long straights, or when driving down a slight hill.
The scooter accelerates from zero, so no kickback is required. However, the start-up is relatively slow and the overall acceleration is not very strong. It handles hills quite well with a charged battery, but with decreasing voltage it slows down significantly on steeper hills, so we sometimes had to help it.
Suspension and lighting
The Bogist M5 Pro has a suspension fork with relatively low travel at the front. However, in combination with the large wheels, riding this scooter is very comfortable.
However, of course, the front fork sometimes knocks, especially if we go over bumps at high speed. But all suspension forks on electric scooters do this in this price category.
As for the lighting, there is a white light with four LEDs at the front, which shines surprisingly well. At the back, there is a standard red light above the rear fender.
Battery and range
The electric scooter Bogist M5 Pro has a 48 V, 11 Ah battery. With such a configuration, the manufacturer states a range of around 30-35 km per charge. We already know from our experience that under real conditions we can expect a significantly lower range.
As always, this time we checked the range during one of our drives. We drove around Košice and the surrounding area again and did not spare the scooter. We always used it in the highest mode and drove at the highest speed that the current conditions allowed us.
We monitored the distance traveled on the scooter display, but also on the smartphone using the Runkeeper application, since GPS measures more accurately than the scooter. According to the display on the scooter, we traveled 28 km on one charge, and according to the Runkeeper application, 23.82 km.
Honestly, as we mentioned above, we expected a range of around 15-17 km, so just under 24 km is quite a decent range for an 11 Ah battery.
Bogist M5 Pro: Final evaluation
Bogist M5 Pro is a less traditional, electric scooter designed exclusively for sitting. It will probably appeal to older generations, but driving it is also quite fun for those born later. Thanks to the 500 W motor and 48 V battery, it offers a maximum speed of up to 40 km/h.
Large wheels, front and rear disc brakes and a display showing the battery voltage are also pleasing. Among the negatives, we include a not very comfortable seat for longer routes and the main display with poor visibility outside.
I did 36 km on that scooter in one charge. And I'm not a filigree person 😉
