Despite the fact that the season for bicycles and scooters is slowly coming to an end, the weather is still kind to us. We therefore decided to test another very interesting electric fatbike, Engwe E26.
In the review, we will look at the quality of processing, individual components, folding the bike, its control, and we will also test the range per charge or comfort while riding.

Content and quality of packaging
Electric fat bike Engwe The E26 was delivered to us by the SPS courier in a fairly large and heavy box. It has plastic handles on both ends and is best carried in pairs.
Inside, the bike is in a partially disassembled state where the front wheel is stored next to the frame with the handlebars and some components removed.
Everything is nicely encased in foam parts that are attached to the frame with eska tapes. The quality of the packaging is so very good and the manufacturer really took care that the bike did not arrive damaged.
In addition to the bike itself, we also find a charger, instructions and tools necessary for assembly in the box.
Assembling a bicycle is easier in pairs
since Engwe E26 weighs approximately 34 kg, we recommend getting a helper to unpack and assemble it. You can do it alone, but it's easier and faster in pairs.
After removing the bike from the box, we started dismantling all packaging materials that protect the bike itself and individual components. This process alone took quite a bit of time, as the foam reinforcements are attached really well with many tapes.
We continued to assemble the front wheel and handlebars. There is nothing unusual here. Just remove the protective axle from the front fork, insert the front wheel in its place, in which the axle is already prepared, and tighten the nuts.
The handlebars are held in the stem by 4 screws, for which we needed an Allen key. The following is the attachment of some components, of which there are several. Specifically, we need to mount the front fender with light, the bell, the rear fender, the rear bracket above the fender and the corresponding light.
At the end, we kept the pedals, where the direction of the threads on the cranks is nicely marked.
Design and quality of workmanship
It's design Engwe The E26 is a very attractive bike that many passers-by will turn around to see. Another attraction is the distinctive yellow painting of the frame with black parts, which go well together.
The frame is made of aluminum alloy marked 6061 and is significantly powerful. The welds are quite nice in most places, but not everywhere. The paint job looks good. What we don't like are the threaded holes in the front of the frame that have no use. So the manufacturer is probably making the same frame parts for multiple bikes, which is why there are unused spots like these.
Overall, however, we are very satisfied with the quality and design. The bike looks good, has a quality impression and brings several interesting parts such as a battery embedded in the frame or a rear luggage holder or a height-adjustable stem.
Handlebars and display
The handlebars have a generous 70cm width and rubber ergonomic grips that are quite comfortable, but easy to turn on the handlebars, which is not the best.
On the left side we find a controller with buttons for on/off, mode setting, lights on and switching between displayed data on the color display. Here we can view the distance of the current trip, the total distance traveled, the maximum and average speed. In the center of the display we see the current speed and mode.
The left brake lever operates the front brake, while the right lever operates the rear brake. Next to it, there is also a shifter, which spoils the whole impression. The manufacturer once again reached for the cheapest option and used an old Shimano shifter for a few pennies. There is also a rotary throttle control in the right grip.
We praise the height-adjustable handlebar stem, which will help to comfortably adjust the handlebar grip. Overall, the frame is quite tall and the mentioned stem is located at a height of 112 cm from the ground, so this adjustment option will certainly be welcomed by many of you.
Control and driving modes
The bike is turned on with an inconspicuous button on the bottom of the controller on the handlebars. This activates the display where we see the current mode, always set to 0 after each power-up.
We have a total of 6 modes here. Mode 0 allows driving without electric assistance, but it is quite difficult, especially on hills, since the bike is heavy and we only have 7 gears available.
Other modes numbered 1 to 5 are graded according to the maximum speed from 5 to 25 km/h. However, we can increase the maximum speed of 25 km/h through the hidden settings menu.
We get to this menu by simultaneously holding down the + and - buttons. Then it is enough to go to the P06 option, where we see the value 25. It is enough to increase it to the desired value, a maximum of 63.
Engine and performance
Engwe The E26 has a 750 W motor with a maximum peak of 1000 W. It is located in the rear wheel. With the increased speed, we reached a maximum of 45 km/h on the longer straight. The editor weighs approximately 78 kg.
Acceleration is quite good and for such a big and heavy bike the 750 W motor is just right. However, we could also imagine a more powerful engine for hills, since Engwe The E26 slightly loses power on steeper hills, and we routinely slowed this way to 20 km/h or less.
During very steep and long climbs, we had to help him with the pedals so that we did not go too slowly. After all, it's a bike, so we don't have a big problem with it. But if you want to drive without the help of the pedals, you won't enjoy driving up long hills too much.
Suspension and comfort during driving
The front suspension fork is already a kind of standard for such electric bikes. In this case, we have a spring fork with the possibility of blocking and adjusting the hardness.
The fork works very well, it is comfortable, its operation is smooth and, most importantly, it does not knock when going over bumps. Of course, large and wide wheels also contribute to a comfortable ride. Their tires measure 26 x 4″ and are recommended to only be inflated to a maximum of 20 PSI.
The suspension is also the seat, which, by the way, is also one of the more comfortable ones. Overall, this bike is very comfortable to ride and we enjoyed it during testing.
Battery, range and charging
Engwe The E26 is equipped with a 48 V / 16 Ah battery that is beautifully embedded in the frame, which we highly appreciate. Nevertheless, it can be removed using the key that is included with the bike.
The charging port can be found in the frame under the rubber cap, but also on the battery itself. So we can charge it on the bike or separately.
As for the range per charge, the manufacturer claims a high range of up to 87 miles, which is 140 km. Of course, this is a range in assisted mode with the help of pedals and definitely at low speed.
Of course, we tested the range and decided to help the bike with the pedals only on steeper hills. We drove in the highest mode with the speed unlocked with a rider weighing 78 kg and 185 cm tall.
Our test drive went through the villages around Košice, where we also completed several hills. We had high expectations, but due to the higher speed, the battery parts on the display were running out quite quickly. We walked a total of 41.48 km.
Although it is much less than 140 km, we drove almost completely without the help of pedals and often at a maximum speed of around 45 km/h.
Hydraulic brakes
With such a weight and size of bikes, hydraulic brakes should be a matter of course, and it is no different in this case. The brakes are good, efficient and the brake levers are pleasant to press.
However, after installing the front wheel, the disc was rubbing slightly against the brake pads, so we had to adjust the caliper slightly, which is no problem.
Engwe E26: Final evaluation
Electric fat bike Engwe The E26 is an extremely interesting bike with an attractive design, a 750 W motor and a maximum speed of 45 km/h. We appreciate the high-quality designs, the embedded battery in the bicycle frame and, above all, the comfort of riding.
Large 26″ and wide tires, good front suspension and a comfortable seat contribute to this. The clear and colorful display in the middle of the handlebars, the rear luggage holder and the adjustable stem will also please you.
The manufacturer indicates an almost unattainable range per charge, up to 140 km. We managed about 41km without pedaling at top speed, but we only really assisted the bike on steep hills, so if you pedal, the range will increase significantly.
