Chinese brand Honor today, at its global press conference, it introduced new flagship smartphones with the label Honor Magic 3 a Magic 3 Pro with Snapdragon 888+. However, the equipment also offers a curved display on the edges or the main 50 MPx cameras from Sony.
Honor Magic 3 and Magic 3 Pro
The main program of today's conference was the introduction of a pair of new flagship smartphones Honor Magic 3 a Magic 3 Pro. Smartphones differ mainly in their photographic equipment and price, but let's start with what they both have in common.
The pair of models will offer an attractive, large, up to 6,76" AMOLED display with curved bezelsnami, with a fine resolution of 2772 x 1334 pixels (Full HD+) and a cutout for the location of the front camera. The manufacturer boasted that the display was curved at an angle of up to 89° and also equipped it with a fast refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, HDR10+ technology and 10-bit colors.
In terms of performance, again in both cases, comes the same flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G processor. This processor should also handle demanding multitasking and is also complemented by a high-quality graphics chip Adreno 660, 8 GB RAM type LPDDR4X and 256 GB internal storage type UFS 3.0.
The body of these smartphones is resistant to dust and water with IP 68 certification. There is also 3D face unlocking and a fingerprint sensor integrated in the display. In terms of connectivity, a fast 5G connection is available, DualSIM functionality, but also LTE connection (channel 20), Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi (a/c), GPS, GLONASS, Galileo or NFC chip designed for mobile payments.
In this case, the software covers the Android 11 operating system together with the MagicUI extension. Phones offer the same even a battery. It has a capacity of 4600 mAh with support for fast 66W cable charging via USB type C connector and 50W fast wireless charging.
Different cameras define the "Pro" model
A fundamental difference and an argument for increasing the price can be found in the category of photographic equipment. Basic and cheaper model Honor Magic 3 offers in its equipment the main 50 MPx sensor Sony IMX766 (f / 1.88) with optical stabilization, which is also complemented by a 13 MPx ultra-wide sensor. There is also a 64 MPx mono-chromatic camera and integrated laser focusing.
More expensive Honor Magic 3 Pro offers the same main 50 MPx camera Sony IMX 766 (f / 1.88) with optical stabilization, which in this case is complemented by a 13 MPx ultra-wide sensor, 64 MPx mono-chromatic sensor, 64 MPx periscope telephoto lens with 3,5x optical zoom and even a color temperature sensor and dToF sensor to help the resulting sharpness.
As for the equipment of the front camera, it is the same for both smartphones. In the space at the top of the display there is an ultra-wide sensor, which is also complemented by a 3D ToF camera. Honor also worked on video quality and, in collaboration with cinematographers, developed his own 3D LUV filters for videos.
Honor Magic 3 Pro +
A pleasant surprise of the press conference was another, third smartphone with a sign Honor Magic 3 Pro +. It will offer a kind of more luxurious alternative to the aforementioned pair of devices above. In this piece, the manufacturer was obviously inspired by the sister Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 Pro RS.
This luxury smartphone differs from its cheaper siblings in several specifications. It also offers a curved screen, but with a nano-crystalline surface. The back side is then processed from ceramic and nano-crystalline materials. In addition, the surface treatment also underwent laser engraving.
The Pro + version also differs with the camera. The main one is no longer the Sony IMX766 sensor, but Sony IMX700 with size 1 / 1,28 ″. We can already recognize this sensor from last year's flagship model Huawei P40 Pro. The 13 MPx ultra-wide sensor is subsequently replaced by a 64 MPx sensor. The equipment also includes a color temperature sensor and a dToF sensor for focusing.
In terms of performance, this smartphone differs only in RAM. In this case, the resulting capacity of up to 12 GB will reach the user.
Price and availability of new smartphones
Honor your smartphone Honor Magic 3 in the basic configuration, 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage amount 899 €. More expensive Honor Magic 3 Pro will start, in a basic configuration of 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, for the sum of 1099 €. Luxury and premium model Honor Magic 3 Pro + will subsequently be sold from 1499 € and thus becomes a direct competitor to, for example, the flagship model Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Good news for all Google fans. Honor has become independent of its parent brand Huawei, and as a result, this brand is not currently subject to the same sanctions regarding trading with American companies (following the example of Huawei). That's why the smartphone includes Android 11, the Play Store, and all Google mobile services.
