Packed in up to three boxes
Since this is a projector that has a glass lens, many of you may have some concerns about safe delivery without damage. However, they are absolutely out of place, as the projector is packed perfectly.
The first thing that pleasantly surprised us is the packaging itself in up to three boxes. The manufacturer packs the projector in a standard product box, which is still placed in another protective box. The sender packed it in another box, so we had the projector packed in three boxes.
Inside, the projector is stored in foam reinforcements that protect it from all sides. In addition to it, we also find a remote control and a power cable with an adapter. The mentioned accessories are located at the bottom of the box under the projector.
The quality of the packaging is so perfect and as for its contents, we only find the bare minimum. The manufacturer does not even include batteries in the remote control.
Design and quality of workmanship
Wanbo TT is quite similar in design to Wanbo t6 max, which we also tested and its review you can find on our website. Perhaps the most striking difference is the color, as the new Wanbo TT comes in an elegant black color. We have to admit that the black color really suits this projector, but even the white color in the case of the previous model had something in it.
The projector is made of plastic, but the overall processing is at a good level. In some places, the plastic bends slightly and the processing could be a little better, but it's perfectly fine for this price category.
As for the individual elements of the projector, there is only one button in the upper part, which is also the only control element on the projector. You can't set anything on it without the remote control.
The front is home to a glass lens, a grille for ventilation and a pair of 5W speakers. On the back, as in the case of the T6 Max model, there is a power connector along with other inputs.
There is also a metal thread in the lower part, thanks to which we can fix the projector on a tripod. However, it was too shallow in the case of the T6 Max model, so it did not hold firmly on the tripod.
This problem is solved with the new projector, but the plastic ring around the thread is completely useless and causes subtle instability on the tripod, so it's not quite perfect here either.
Performance and focus
The projector is powered by a quad-core Mediatek MTK9266 processor, aided by 1GB of RAM. It's not a dazzling performance, but it's basically quite sufficient. The projector works well, it is not slowed down in any way, on the contrary, everything on it goes surprisingly well and quickly. The eMMC type storage has 8 GB.
Unlike the lower-end Wanbo T2 Max projector, where we had a focus wheel, there is no wheel here. As we mentioned in the introduction, the Wanbo TT has only one control element, which is the button to turn it on or off. The novelty focuses automatically using an AI algorithm and a gyroscope.
However, the autofocus is sometimes slow and takes a few seconds to respond when the distance from the wall changes. In this case, the image will momentarily flash to the focusing screen, which the projector will use to focus the image. Unfortunately, the result is not always perfect, so sometimes we need to fine-tune it using the F+ and F- buttons on the remote control. In most cases, however, it focuses well on its own.
Image and its quality
Wanbo TT offers LCD technology with LED light and an image with a native Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The size of the projection image can range from 40 to 120 inches, and the distance of the projector from the screen or wall can be 1.1 to 3.3 m.
The life of the LED lamp should be around 20000 hours and the aspect ratio should be selectable between 4:3 and 16:9. However, we did not find any such settings in the settings, and we managed to set the aspect ratio only through corner correction, the so-called keystone.
Thanks to this, the projector does not have to be directly in front of the wall or screen, but it can also project partially from the side, with the fact that we adjust the corners so that the image is even with perpendicular corners.
You will be pleased with a fairly good brightness, 650 ANSI lumens, which is a little more compared to the Wanbo T6 Max, which has 550 ANSI lumens. Realistically, on a sunny day, such luminosity is weak without dimming, but a slight dimness is enough and the picture is really good. Of course, it's best in complete darkness.
It has relatively saturated colors with HRD10/10+ support, so the image is very attractive to look at. The only major complaint we have is the weaker sharpness, which is sometimes not perfect.
The system is a big disappointment
If you read the description carefully before ordering, you will not be disappointed. We didn't pay much attention to the information about the system and somehow automatically expected that the projector has Android. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
Wanbo TT comes with a kind of custom system that is based on Linux. It offers a very similar environment to Android TV with an almost identical layout of individual elements.
Apps are displayed in tiles on the main screen. Here we find certified Netflix, which means full resolution support, YouTube, YouTube Kids, Prime Video, Facebook, Twitter, a browser, an application for watching live TV and a kind of app store.
But it's not about Google Play. The app store is called Netrange and offers several applications, but they are completely unknown to us. Its offer does not include any other streaming application such as HBO or Disney+, and certainly not our Slovak applications such as Antik TV, Magio or Skylink.
Since it is not Android TV or Google TV, we cannot install the desired applications even by downloading the apk file. The system is thus completely closed to the installation of any applications. Only those in netrange are available. You don't even need to install them either, just run them.
We see this as a huge minus, since in order to use popular applications, we also need a TV stick or other device, in which case the projector would only serve as a display device.
The aforementioned application for watching live TV is called TIKILIVE, but it only offers foreign stations that are completely unknown to us. It also offers several series and movies, but most of them are unavailable for our region.
Another is the application TG - Toon Goggles, which offers content for children, but it is also a foreign production. However, younger children may enjoy this content. There are, for example, Smurfs and Angry Birds, although only in English.
Connection options
The Wanbo TT projector has HDMI and USB ports, as well as a 3.5 mm audio port. We can easily connect it as a display device to a laptop or computer. Another option is playing multimedia content from a USB stick. But here we noticed a problem with the support of audio codecs, so the support of the most modern ones is missing.
The option of connecting a smartphone to the projector via screencast will also please you. Sharing YouTube videos from your smartphone to the projector works similarly.
Wanbo TT supports Bluetooth in version 5.1, so if you want to get better sound than the one coming from the built-in speakers, you can connect a soundbar, for example. We tested this Bluetooth connection with our Samsung soundbar and everything including connection and playback worked correctly and without any problems.
Remote control
The package of the Wanbo TT projector also includes a remote control, for which we need a pair of AA batteries, as they are not included in the package.
The controller has standard dimensions, but for today's time it contains quite a lot of buttons. In addition to the classic direction buttons for moving to the sides and the central OK button, we can find many others here.
The Netflix, YouTube, Prime video and OPEN Browser applications also have separate buttons. There are four colored buttons that we know from classic TV, but we didn't find a use for them. There are also buttons for volume control, focus, a button for fast image rotation, input selection, return to the menu, back, direct switch to USB input and numbers, also with a backspace and mute button.
Overall the remote is good. It is comfortable to hold in the hand, it has rubberized buttons and they have a good response and work properly. Maybe there are too many buttons on it, but for us, it's better to have more and have some extra that we don't use than to miss some.
Setting options
The settings offer a choice of language and other standard parameters such as time, sleep timer, auto sleep or reset to default settings. More interesting are the settings related to the image. Here we find the picture mode, where we have a choice of standard, cinema, sports, vivid, hi-bright or custom mode.
In custom mode, we can set brightness, contrast, HUE, sharpness, gamma and color temperature. We liked the standard mode or the cinema mode the most. Others offer an overly burnt, overexposed image.
In the sound settings, we have the option of customizing the bass, treble or choosing from among the default modes: standard, live, sports, movie, music, news or user, which we can customize using the aforementioned bass and treble.
We also have a choice of digital output mode, where we can choose between Auto, PCM, Dolby Audio-Dolby Digital or Dolby Audio-Dolby Digital Plus. Overall, however, the sound quality is not the best, as it is only a pair of 5 W speakers.
We also have Bluetooth, WiFi connection, projection settings according to how we have positioned the projector, corner correction (keystone), zoom and automatic focus.
Wanbo TT: Final evaluation
The new Wanbo TT projector impresses at first glance with its elegant black design, which is structurally reminiscent of older models from the Wanbo brand. The novelty offers a native Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 px, a brightness of 650 ANSI lumens, Bluetooth support, WiFi and an interesting automatic focus function.
The image that the projector offers is quite attractive with rich colors and the overall performance of the projector is very good with a fast system.
The big negative is the system just mentioned, which is based on Linux, but it is not Android TV or Google TV. Wanbo this time offers a kind of own system with certified Netflix, YouTube and Prime video.
However, the Play Store and the option to install additional applications are missing. Therefore, we recommend purchasing a TV Stick for the projector, for example xiaomi tv stick or Realme TV Sticks, thanks to which you can enjoy much wider multimedia possibilities.
