OnePlus Nord available
It's really not easy to prepare an affordable smartphone with good equipment and a relatively low price. OnePlus is also aware of this, as it has decided to talk publicly through its founder about prices and procedures for creating a new affordable smartphone.
An available model from the workshop of this Chinese brand should come with a label soon OnePlus North and thanks to an interview provided by Carl Pei, we also know more information and the design of the upcoming smartphone. For more details on why a mid-range smartphone is really needed, read next article.
Snapdragon 765G processor
In terms of manufacturers' efforts, Carl Pei argues that energy invested in the flagship series in particular currently plays a primary role. This opens up space in the more accessible middle class. He admits that the processor plays an important role in planning an affordable but powerful mid-range smartphone. Named Snapdragon 765G.
Customers of OnePlus smartphones have been accustomed to exemplary and truly lightning-fast fluidity for several years, thanks to a combination of fast hardware and optimized software. However, the success behind the flag generations regularly consisted in the current series of Snapdragon 8xx processors.
This time, the Chinese manufacturer decided to use the current Snapdragon 7xx series processor, a modern 765G chip. According to the CEO of the OnePlus brand, he should offer really high performance, a modern 5G connection and also fluency at the level of a flagship smartphone. As a result, the user does not notice a difference in the responses of the smartphone.
An NFC chip costs only $ 4
According to the information in the interview, the OnePlus brand is finally ready to bring a flagship experience in a lower price category, ie for more affordable money. However, this also requires a reasonable budget, which will also include user requirements. How much does such an NFC chip or official IP certification cost?
Carl Pei says the component - an NFC chip that needs to be integrated into a smartphone costs only $ 4 (USD). However, this is an amount spent by the manufacturer, it is not part of the final price for the customer. It also includes penetrations from other budgets, such as budgets for components, development, marketing, operating expenses, offices, staff, etc.
What is IP certification?
A complicated situation occurs when looking at a certification of increased resilience. What is needed to obtain e.g. IP 68 certification? Carl Pei claims that there is no third party or other company to certify these devices. However, it is a standard that has been used in the technology business and thus evaluates the durability used.
In order for an installation to be IP 68 certified, it needs to survive underwater up to a depth of 1,5 meters for 30 minutes. In this case, it is necessary to select all present waterproof ports. However, it is a very small part of the total cost of a given resistance. The highest item in this case is the devices with which the manufacturer tests this resistance.
In this case, it is indeed a very high investment that will provide the necessary equipment through which resistance testing is carried out. Another item is also the inclusion of further steps on the production line. Each piece with IP protection must have certain extra steps at the end of the production line. These steps will financially increase production.
Performing these steps ultimately requires more employees and it is also a matter of extending the production of every single piece of smartphone. In the case of the middle class model, OnePlus decided not to use IP certification. Ultimately, this means saving a considerable amount of $ 15 (USD) on the final smartphone.
The Chinese manufacturer will use its own resistance testing without certification, but with resistance to standard daily use. The user does not have to worry if his smartphone gets wet in the rain or falls into the pool, the phone will continue to work. However, the model will not be specifically designed for extreme underwater use.
In addition, the smartphone development process itself involves endurance testing from OnePlus. In the preparation of the prepared middle class model, immersion in a fluid at a depth of 30 centimeters for 30 seconds is tested. Subsequently, reactions are awaited in the process and if the design is correct, the production process continues.
What role does the battery play?
An equally important piece of equipment is the battery. Carl Pei from OnePlus claims that the novelty will offer a practically standard battery and its capacity will not deviate from the average. However, we do not currently know the battery capacity.
However, users can look forward to special hardware - very fast Warp Charge charging directly in the package, which the Chinese manufacturer develops itself. We can already recognize this type of fast charging from previous generations of OnePlus smartphones.
OnePlus Nord: Display
As for the display panel, in this case Carl Pei points to several factors. The first is a tip of display technology, specifically distinguishing between AMOLED panel and LCD panel. In practice it is AMOLED panel reportedly up to twice as expensive compared to the price of the LCD panel. For this reason, we can see its use especially in flagship smartphones.
Another factor is the use or. do not use rounded edges of the display on the sides. It is this popular and stylish rounding that requires a more expensive production process, as well as extra steps in this process, which are also reflected in the final product in terms of finances.
What about the refresh rate? Just a few years ago, virtually all smartphones were available with the same and fundamental frequency of 60 Hz. Today, it is no longer an exception if the flagship model offers at least 90 Hz, but in the end we can also see smartphones with a refresh rate of 120 or up to 144 Hz on the market.
Although Carl Pei did not directly reveal what refresh rate the upcoming OnePlus Nord will offer. However, he claims that OnePlus has spent considerable funds to ensure truly smooth and fast screen responses. He also claims that it was worth the expenses, which will be transferred to the user experience.
3,5 mm audio connector
The presence of a standard 3,5 mm audio connector has been a popular topic for the last few years. This connector has already been excluded from the standard port equipment by several manufacturers and has been replaced only by a single C-type USB connector. OnePlus North?
OnePlus co-founder claims that this connector is not so expensive in terms of materials. However, this available part requires space inside the smartphone. It is already filled in during the development of the smartphone and the manufacturer must decide whether to use this connector or to fill this space, e.g. larger battery.
In the interview, Carl Pei states that the current true-wireless wireless headphones are becoming more and more available, and within OnePlus they see less and less space for the need or. use this connector. The future in this case is clearly wireless.
As for the mentioned space, we currently cannot say exactly how much mAh of battery we will get by removing the audio connector. However, Carl Pei emphasizes that it is necessary to think about the thickness or. thin dimensions of the device. A larger battery equals a thicker body, which the end customer perceives.
OnePlus Nord: Design
Within the video, which you can see in its entirety above, the most interesting part is the just published design of the upcoming smartphone. OnePlus North. Carl Pei prepared several internal prototypes that the company designed for the demonstration. However, the term prototype refers to the design processing of the structure and layout of the elements of the device.
In the video we can see an untraditionally crafted rear camera in two color versions. However, the manufacturer eventually abandoned this design. As Carl Pei says, they initially saw the project as an experiment. They changed the final design in a relatively late part of the process and this extended the development of the device by a whole month.
The final design will be easily changed. The company's co-founder emphasizes an important product strategy and showed us a glossy rear wall with the vertical placement of a four-rear camera module. Other shots show us a pair of front cameras, which are located in a modern space in the display.
At the end of the interview, we learn that we are only a few days away from the final introduction of the new smartphone. Also of interest are the wireless headphones that Carl Pei himself used during the interview. Turquoise headphones can be prepared OnePlusBudsthat could be introduced along with the new smartphone.
