Even though the season of electric scooters and bicycles is slowly coming to an end, we have tested one more interesting scooter, which is a very tempting choice due to its price. This is a copy of the HIMO L2 electric scooter, which you can find on Chinese e-shops under the names X10 or ZP088-L2.
The electric scooter ZP088-L2 is a non-branded copy of the aforementioned scooter that we also tested. Due to the low price compared to the original, we will be interested mainly in the quality of processing, driving characteristics and range or maximum speed.
Where to buy electric scooter ZP088-L2 / X10?
The electric scooter ZP088-L2 is currently available in the offer of the verified seller Gshopper, but you can also find it on the popular Geekbuyingu. In both cases, it is an offer in European warehouses, thanks to which it will be delivered to you by express courier within a few days. Delivery without customs fees is a matter of course.

Content and quality of packaging
We ordered the electric scooter for a test from our partner Gshopper. It traveled to us from a German warehouse and was delivered by GLS courier. The dimensions of the box are 1195 x 225 x 525 mm and the total weight is approximately 20 kg.
The box is quite difficult to carry, as it has no straps or handles to grab it. In this case, the manufacturer did not use the so-called double packaging, so the scooter is delivered in only one cardboard box. Inside it, however, there is a folded scooter in several foam reinforcements, which are relatively large and protect the scooter from damage perfectly.
In addition to the scooter itself, the package also includes an English user manual, a set of four screws, an Allen key and a charging adapter with a cable. It has a Chinese end, and as a bonus we found a second cable in the box, but it has the same end. The seller probably made a mistake and wanted to send us a cable with a European end. The European plug adapter was not included in the package.
Simple assembly before the first ride
Like most other urban scooter models, this HIMO L2 copy comes in the box assembled with the handlebars removed. It is enough to simply tilt the scooter and screw the handlebars using the four screws found in the user manual.
Two screws are placed from the front and two more from the back of the vertical steering rod. You don't need your own tools or any other tools, since everything you need, including the Allen key, is included in the package.
Processing quality
As we mentioned in the introduction, the ZP088-L2 electric scooter is a copy of the well-known and very successful HIMO L2 scooter, which we tested in both its versions – HIMO L2 and HIMO L2 Max. At first glance, it is a faithful copy, but if we look closely at the scooter, we will find several differences.
The ZP088-L2 has only one brake lever on the left side, a different folding mechanism system, a different foot platform top material and also a different front light. However, the overall construction is very similar.
You are probably most interested in the quality of processing. The new scooter, modeled after the original, has a massive aluminum alloy construction. However, HIMO L2 clearly has the upper hand in terms of quality, and its imitation is not so perfect at first glance.
Although the construction is of high quality, the folding mechanism is relatively simple and imperfections can be seen in the overall quality of the processing of the individual parts. However, these are often cosmetic defects rather than scratched metal parts. Overall, the scooter is solid, does not creak or bend. For its low price, the quality is good and the imperfections that you will find on it for the most part do not play a significant role.
350 W power and driving modes
The electric scooter ZP088-L2 is equipped with a 350 W electric motor. It is located in the front wheel and ensures a maximum speed of 31 km/h. There are 3 modes with speeds of 10, 15 and 31 km/h. It is strange that with such a maximum speed, the manufacturer chose weaker modes with such low speeds and a difference of only 5 km/h.
The button with the on/off symbol on the throttle lever, which in this case is colored red, is used to switch between the three modes.
As for going uphill, the scooter should be able to handle a 17° incline. In reality, however, she can't handle hills very well, and we had to help her by bouncing on really steep hills. Acceleration from zero is not the best and the scooter takes a while to get going.
Hidden menu with the option to unlock speed
The interesting feature of this scooter is the possibility of unlocking the maximum speed up to approximately 40 km/h, which is very rare for a scooter in this price category. It is probably the cheapest such fast scooter you can buy.
You can get to the hidden menu by holding down both buttons on the gas lever at the same time. In this menu, there are four options marked as P0 to P3. The last option, P3, is used to set the maximum speed.
After changing the value from 32 to FF, the full speed is unlocked, which in our case with an 80 kg rider represented a speed of up to 40 km/h. You can also watch the entire unlocking of the speed in our short video tutorial, which we published earlier in our article about this scooter.
The P0 option is used to switch between speed units (mph or km/h), P1 to enable or disable the cruise control and P2 to activate or deactivate the idle start. However, the cruise control works in a strange way and at full throttle it turns on before we reach a constant speed, while the scooter continues to accelerate.
Display and handlebars
The handlebars are located at a height of approximately 117 cm from the ground, which is just right for a person with a height of 185 cm. It may not suit taller people. The width of the handlebars is 47 cm and they also have a bell that you can hear quite well.
In the center is the dominant display, which shows the current speed and battery status. However, it is not displayed as a percentage, but using four parts, each of which should represent 25%.
Tires and comfort while driving
The ZP088-L2 electric scooter has 10-inch pneumatic wheels with 255 x 70 tires. Despite the fact that the scooter lacks any suspension, the ride is quite comfortable and very quiet thanks to these large and wide wheels.
It should not be forgotten that this is a scooter intended for city traffic. It rides well on classic cycle paths, roads and normal pavements, and standard bumps can dampen the big wheels quite well.
But if the sidewalks or roads are too broken, you can already feel the lack of suspension and the scooter will knock you out a bit. However, this is nothing special for urban scooters without suspension.
Range and charging
Following the pattern of the original, its copy also has a battery located in the lower part under a metal cover. It is a 36 V battery with a maximum voltage of 42 V and a capacity of 10 Ah.
The manufacturer indicates a range of 30-40 km per charge. As usual, these values are mostly measured in laboratory conditions in eco mode, which most scooterists do not use at all.
Since we, like many of you, use urban electric scooters only in the highest mode, we tested the range in that mode. In addition, we unlocked the speed to the maximum, as we described in one of the previous chapters.
We drove through the streets of Košice, where we didn't even avoid hills. Most of the time we used cycle paths and classic paths. We managed to travel 21.23 km on one charge, which is not bad at all for such a speed and a 10 Ah battery.
The charging connector is located on the left tent near the stand and is protected by a rubber cap, but it does not hold very well. Charging takes about 5 hours, although the manufacturer says 3-4 hours.
Brakes and lighting
In this case, we only have a rear disc brake without E-ABS. It is a classic mechanical disc brake, which we find in many Chinese electric scooters. The brake has only one brake pad, which presses on the disc when the brake lever is pressed.
The efficiency of the disc brake is standard, and since it is located at the back, while the engine is at the front, expect the scooter to skid under hard braking. As for the lighting, we can find the classic front white and rear red light. The rear light flashes when braking and the brightness of both lights is relatively weak.
Tipping mechanism
The ZP088-L2 scooter can be easily folded towards the rear wheel and transported when folded. Its weight is approximately 18 kg, so it is not one of the lightest scooters, but such a weight is still quite acceptable for carrying.
However, the system of locking the joint of the folding mechanism in the unfolded state is a little strange. The joint is secured by means of a screw with a rotating wheel, which presses on the U-shaped lock. At first glance, this part seems to be the weakest link of the folding mechanism, but the same system can be found in significantly more expensive scooters Kugoo G-Booster.
After a few rides, a certain play appeared in the joint, similar to the Himo L2 scooter. However, it is not something terrible and unheard of in this price range.
ZP088-L2: Final evaluation
The electric scooter, which you can find under several designations such as ZP088-L2 or X10, is a copy of the L2 model from the Himo brand. However, it impresses with its low price, which is significantly lower than the original.
The scooter offers a similarly massive construction, a 350 W motor, a 10 Ah battery and one bonus, which is the possibility of unlocking the maximum speed of up to 40 km/h. This makes the ZP088-L2 scooter probably the fastest scooter in its category.
Although the quality of processing is not as good as in the case of the Himo L2, these are mostly just cosmetic defects that do not affect functionality in any way. The scooter has weaker acceleration and hills are not its best friends, but if you are looking for a lot of music for little money, it is a very interesting option.
