We tested a very attractive electric scooter in terms of design Kugoo Kirin G3. It offers 1200 W of power, TPU suspension and an 18 Ah battery built on a 52 V system. However, this model has earned a lot of criticism, due to a faulty production series with poor performance. However, these issues need to be addressed.
The look and parameters look very tempting, so let's take a look at what this scooter really is. In our review, we will look at the quality of workmanship, control, range, but also the overall feeling of driving.

Content and quality of packaging
A scooter Kugoo Kirin G3 was brought to us by DPD courier in a large box with dimensions of 120 x 29 x 59.5 cm and weighing approximately 31 kg. We praise the manufacturer for the double packaging, which actually means that the scooter was packed in two boxes, which increases the resistance to damage during transport.
Of course, there are also several shaped foam reinforcements that prevent unwanted movement of the scooter in the box. It is stored in foam reinforcements when folded with the handlebars and rear fender removed.
In addition to the scooter, the package includes a charging cable with an adapter, screws needed for assembly and a pair of wrenches for tightening the screws.
Quality of workmanship and design
Electric scooter Kugoo The Kirin G3 has an all-metal body and looks very powerful, which should ensure high durability. We will deal with individual elements in more detail in separate chapters, but at the beginning we will go over at least the basic features.
New from the brand Kugoo immediately impresses with its attractive design and combination of black and orange. In terms of design, this model has really succeeded and it clearly attracts the attention of passers-by and especially other scooterists on the streets.
The front and rear wheel mounts are in a rich orange TPU plastic color, which also offers an interesting TPU suspension, which also has an attractive design with a massive construction. You will also be interested in the rear fender, which you can rest on one foot while driving. The handlebars are comfortably wide and the middle part is dominated by a large display. The clear height of 18 cm will also please.
We didn't even get around with problems
Even our orders are sometimes not without problems associated with the subsequent claim of the goods. A scooter Kugoo We received the Kirin G3 already at the end of February, but the review for this piece would be very negative.
Mark Kugoo because it launched a faulty series that had several problems. There was even a group on Facebook with the name Kugoo Kirin G3 Nightmare, where unhappy owners complain about the same problems we have experienced.
The first problem was the poor power, which did not resemble a scooter with a 1200 W motor. Although the display showed a speed of about 50 km / h, in reality, according to GPS, it was rather 35 km / h. Another problem was the throttle control in the form of a rotary lever, which, however, worked more like an on / off button. The scooter went either to full power or not at all. No gas regulation was possible.
Many owners of this novelty also complain about a poor quality control unit, the so-called controller, which fired after a few kilometers. We did not have this problem.
We have a scooter in agreement with the seller sent back to Poland, where she came from. The seller promised to send us a second one as soon as they resolved these issues. He kept his word, so we received a corrected model in which the mentioned problems were solved.
What the hell didn't want, we had a minor accident with the new scooter right during the first test. Somewhere while driving, we lost one of the bolts that held the front disc brake caliper in place, and the emergency caliper holder broke during emergency braking. The bolt was probably loose from the beginning, as no other bolt showed play. The seller sent us a new brake.
Scooter folding and driving modes
As we mentioned in the introduction, the scooter Kugoo The Kirin G3 is folded in the box. We can get it to the unfolded state by standard lifting of the steering rod and securing it in the joint. Here, the manufacturer chose an interesting but impractical securing system. The joint where the steering rod bends is secured by screwing in a relatively long threaded rod with a reflective front light. Screwing is quite lengthy and therefore impractical for us.
Before the first ride, we had to mount the rear fender, which is fastened with a pair of screws and also the handlebars, for which we needed 5 screws - 2 on the sides and one on the front. It is not difficult and in addition all screws and wrenches are included.
The scooter offers 3 riding modes with maximum speeds of 25, 35 and 50 km / h. It switches between the modes using one of the touch buttons on the display, specifically the middle one. The modes are numbered from 1 to 3.
Comfort while driving
Most of all readers are interested in how to ride a scooter, what is its performance and overall impression. We have to admit that thanks to the wide air wheels, the ride is very comfortable and pleasant. Specifically, it is the size of the tires 10 x 2.75 - 6.5.
At first glance, the scooter is large and robust, which corresponds to the relatively high position of the handlebars, which cannot be adjusted in height. However, this gives them high strength and stability. The handlebars are at a height of 123.5 cm from the ground and have a generous width of 66 cm. The grips are made of soft rubber, which has a non-slip surface, so they also hold very comfortably.
A minor downside may be the shorter legroom, which is slightly unconventional in that the platform continues smoothly on the massive rear fender, which is also designed to lock one of the legs. If you've seen the presentation video of this scooter, you know what we're talking about. If not, you can watch the video here as well. However, we did not try this style of driving.
But we have to admit that without using the rear fender as a stepping surface, both feet didn't fit too well on the platform. Only if we had them both right next to each other, as the platform is wide enough. At higher speeds, however, such a position is not very good. We had to get used to one leg raised on the fender for a longer time. However, it is a matter of personal preferences.
Power and maximum speed
Electric scooter Kugoo The Kirin G3 has a 1200W engine located at the rear, which should bring better acceleration and more interesting driving characteristics. However, the acceleration from zero is weaker than we expected, but gradually the scooter starts up nicely. The manufacturer indicates the maximum speed at the level 50 km/h. We checked the speed according to the smartphone, where we had downloaded a tachometer application that uses GPS.
At lower speeds, the difference between the speed on the scooter display and the real speed according to GPS was about 3 km / h. At higher speeds, the difference has increased to approximately 6-7 km / h. We managed to reach a maximum speed of 46 km / h on a longer straight line with a rider weighing 80 kg.
The scooter has enough power even for steeper climbs. Subjectively, we perceived sufficient performance in the hills. The manufacturer states a maximum incline of 30 °, so we tried to measure the slope of the hill using an application on a smartphone, but we were surprised that even really steep-looking hills had a slope of only about 12 °. The steepest hill we found in the city had a slope of 15 °.
The hill with such a slope made the scooter take over, but without starting it overcame it at a speed of about 15 km / h. Therefore, we are afraid that the 30-degree climb would not be possible and this figure from the manufacturer is exaggerated.
Display, suspension and brakes
The large display in the middle of the handlebars is their dominant element and will catch your eye at first glance. The current speed is displayed in the middle, but we can also find other interesting information here, such as the engine temperature, its voltage and also the battery voltage. There is no display of the distance traveled or a display of the current mode. It's a pity that the battery status is only displayed graphically in the form of ten parts of the battery symbol, but the information about the current voltage, which can also be oriented, will help.
The display also has three touch buttons. These are used to control lighting, driving mode and switch between speed units (km / h or mph).
As for the suspension, it is located at the front and rear. This is the so-called TPU suspension (plastic), which works quite well and is relatively soft. Riding a scooter was comfortable, but the wide tires also contribute to that.
With lighter terrain than field or forest paths, the scooter can handle ease. In heavier terrain where there are a lot of stones, it will knock you out considerably, as the shocks are significantly transmitted to the hands and the whole body.
Mechanical, ie cable disc brakes are at the front and rear together with 140 mm discs. Their effectiveness is sufficient and in both cases, whether we use the front or rear brake, the electronic brake is also activated by the engine.
After off-road driving, we recommend checking all screws, especially those that are tightened after unpacking from the box. These are therefore the screws holding the handlebars and the fender. They are relatively relaxed. One of the solutions for carefree driving is to glue the screws to the threads.
Range and charging
The manufacturer states a maximum range of 60 km. As we well know, the range given by the manufacturer is in most cases unattainable under normal conditions and is often just under half the paper value. The battery is based on a 52 V system and has 18 Ah.
Of course, we measured the range using the Runkeeper application in our smartphone and we also compared the measured value with that on the scooter display. We drove in the streets of Košice and suburbs and we traveled almost 34 km according to GPS on a single charge. The application interrupted our activity during a short photo-break, so we have the activity divided into two parts, where about 1 km is missing.
The display of the scooter showed a distance of 39 km and the remaining battery capacity was about 10%, as we had only one of the ten parts of the graphic display left. It should be a little more based on the battery voltage. The range is not outrageous and at this price level we would be more pleased with the battery with a higher capacity. Charging takes approximately 10-11 hours.
Lighting and smartphone application
The design scooter also includes unusual lighting. The front, white lights are located on both sides of the front of the platform. Their low position will ensure that you do not go blind to coming people.
The rear, red light is integrated in the fender and flashes when the brake is applied. In addition, we also have the side lighting of the foot platform, which illuminates the orange stripes on the sides with white light.
Kugoo The Kirin G3 also has Bluetooth, but the official stable app is still in development. The manufacturer has so far only made available the beta version of the application for Android, which you can download, for example from this link. We tried it on several smartphones, but on all of them, after connecting the scooter, the application still returned to finding the scooter.
Because of this, we were unable to test it. However, it should display current speed, battery capacity in percent, tachometer status and offer start settings without starting, scooter locking and cruise control.
Kugoo Kirin G3: Final review
Kugoo The Kirin G3 is a very attractive scooter in terms of design, especially for the younger generation. It has a distinctive orange color, in which the arms of the TPU suspension and the overall massive construction are carried.
The 1200 W motor located at the rear will take care of a maximum speed of 50 km / h, which is not a small thing at all. We managed to reach a maximum of 46 km / h with 85 kg riders. They will please the tall and wide handlebars with good grips, a pair of disc brakes and also a clear and large display.
However, the real range at maximum power is around 35 km, which is not too much. We would be pleased with the higher capacity battery as well as the working smartphone application, which is still under development. We were also not pleased with the initial issues associated with the defective series, which were fixed but still pose some risk.
Hello, I bought a model about a month ago Kugoo Kirín G3 🙂, but so far everything has been without problems, I was really satisfied with the performance, speed, overall this type of model suits me because I drive on asphalt but also in moderate, lighter terrain... but before the evening it disappointed me in the worst way.... I walked roughly 4-5 km. I stopped at the intersection and then when I wanted to start, nothing happened, the gas simply did not respond at all. The display lit up nicely but I couldn't start it at all, I don't know and I don't understand why it cost me 😭😭😭 but on the way back home I had to push the scooter...about 3-4 km....has anyone had a similar, technical problem? Thanks for the answer... Michal, SP
Hold the shutdown for a long time and wait until it turns off, turn it on again and that's it
