Many customers are complaining about the freezing of Chinese tablets with processors from MediaTek. As with one of the most popular, affordable tablets, Teclast T30? We have been using it in the editorial office for a long time, so we bring you a detailed review.
Where to buy Teclast T30?
We ordered the Teclast T30 tablet from the popular e-shop Banggood. It was available in the EU warehouse, so delivery was very fast and hassle-free. Only 3 days have passed since the order was created and a courier with a package was waiting for us.
At the moment, however, it is sold out here and is still available at official Teclast dealer on the AliExpress online marketplace. IN Spain there are a few more pieces at the time of publishing the review. It has a very good price, so if you are interested, do not hesitate.
If you no longer miss a loose piece, we also recommend the model Teclast M40, which also has an eight-core processor or enough RAM.
Contents of the package
The Teclast T30 comes in a quality, flat, white box with the orange Teclast logo. Once opened, there is a tablet at the top. The top of the box is covered with soft reinforcement so that it is sufficiently protected.
A transparent foil is glued to the tablet itself, protecting its display from scratches. The foil is not very good, scratches appeared on it very quickly. There is also a foil on the back, so it is protected against scratches on both sides. However, the backing film easily peels off around the camera, where dust is trapped. We therefore removed this foil from the back cover very quickly.
In addition to the tablet, you will also find a charger with an EU plug and a needle for opening the slot for SIM and memory card. At the bottom, under the tablet, there are instructions in several languages. The package thus contains all the basic elements that we expected. It would also be nice to have a case, similar to the one that Xiaomi bundles with its phones. But you have to buy it yourself.
Overall, the tablet is packed well and we have no reservations about the packaging itself. The tablet is well protected in the box against impacts that may occur during transport.
Teclast T30: Quality of workmanship
Teclast T30 has an aluminum body and looks very solid at the first touch. The tablet measures 24.90 x 13.50 x 0.85 cm, so it is very thin. Weighs 560 g and we have to admit that you can feel the weight and it starts to be heavy when held in your hands for a long time. But it is a tablet with a diagonal of 10.1 ″, so a higher weight is in place.
The workmanship is of high quality, nothing creaks on the tablet even when pressed harder in various places. We are so satisfied with the overall quality.
As we have already mentioned, there is a transparent foil glued on the front and back from the factory. Under the back foil is a matte, black, plastic cover. Despite the fact that it is matte, fingerprints are captured on it.
Connectivity and controls
The Teclast T30 tablet offers relatively rich connectivity, both physical and wireless. As for ports and slots, unusually on the right side you will find a charging USB-C port, a slot for SIM card and memory, microSD card and even a 3.5 mm audio port. The maximum supported memory card capacity is 128 GB. On the right side there is also a volume control, a microphone and a small hole for resetting the tablet.
The bottom side contains a special magnetic port, which makes this tablet interesting. You can use this port to connect a keyboard to your tablet and use it as a laptop. The keyboard then tilts down just like a laptop, which actually protects the display. The Teclast T30 is sold with or without a keyboard. We have a version without a keyboard, as we do not need it.
But if you often use a tablet for typing, be sure to consider buying it with a keyboard. It can also be purchased separately and costs around 20-30 €. At the top are the stereo speakers, another microphone, and a button to turn the display on, off, and unlock or lock. The left side is completely empty.
In terms of wireless connectivity, you'll find support for dual-band WiFi connectivity (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), 4G including our 800 MHz B20 band, GPS and Bluetooth 4.1. For example, there is also an FM radio.
Display and system
The display has a diagonal of 10.1 ″ with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px in an aspect ratio of 16:10. An IPS panel with a maximum brightness of 370 rivets is used here. This is not the best display with the best resolution, but it is not bad at all. Around the display there is a relatively thick frame with a width of 12 mm. A thinner frame would be nicer, but on the other hand you can at least avoid unwanted, accidental presses of the display.
The colors have a slightly cool touch and on the IPS display, of course, black is not completely black, but due to the price, the quality of the display is good. Viewing angles are excellent and the image is not distorted at all, even when viewed from almost 180 °.
At the top, next to the selfie camera, there is a light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness. It works well, with a slight delay. What is special, however, is that enabling or disabling automatic brightness control is not traditionally found in the notification bar. To activate this function, it is necessary to go to the display settings.
The brightness level is sufficient. Inside, we usually had the brightness set below 50%. Maximum brightness is required outdoors, but the readability of the display is good. There is also a night mode that eliminates blue and turns the display yellow-brown, protecting the eyes. The night mode can also be set in the automatic mode, when it will be switched on and off based on the selected times, in case of sunset and sunrise.
Teclast comes with a clean Android operating system in version 9. Upgrading to a newer version is not available.
You will find here a minimum of pre-installed applications, which we evaluate very positively. Since there is no superstructure over Android, the system looks relatively strict. You can get to the main menu by swiping from the bottom of the screen. This menu is sliding down. Personally, we don't like this style of menu very much, but it's just our subjective opinion.
How to take a photo of Teclast T30?
The Teclast T30 received a rear, 8 MPx camera with a maximum photo resolution of 3264 x 2448 px with a 4: 3 aspect ratio. The front, selfie camera has 5 MPx.
Cameras are below average. So far, we haven't needed to use a tablet for photography, so we personally don't lack better cameras. But if someone wants to take pictures with a tablet, the Teclast T30 is not a good choice. The photos are not very sharp and the quality is really quite poor. In addition, relatively high noise is present in poor light. Focusing is slow and the camera application offers only basic settings.
A selfie camera is sufficient for video calls, although the quality is also not dazzling.
For a better idea than the tablet you take, you can see below a few photos taken with this tablet.
Performance and sound quality Teclast T30
The Teclast T30 has a powerful 8-core MediaTek Helio P70 processor, which is assisted by 4 GB of RAM. There is also internal storage with a capacity of 64 GB, which can be expanded with microSD memory cards.
Despite the fact that processors from MediaTek are not as well known and popular in our country as those from Snapdragon, you don't have to worry about it here. Unlike some other Chinese tablets, where many users complain about chopping, we haven't noticed anything like that here. Although the Teclast T30 is not one of the most powerful devices on the market, we have been using the tablet for almost 2 months and we have not noticed any chopping or significant slowdown.
The environment is very smooth and is great for everyday work, watching videos, movies or even playing games. There is a Mali G72 graphics chip and the tablet can handle even more demanding games. We tested Asphalt 9 and PUBG. The games play very well on the tablet.
A positive surprise for us was the finding that there are stereo speakers. The sound is good, even if the maximum volume is not too high. Watching movies, series or videos on YouTube is all the better that, in addition to a large diagonal, you also get stereo sound with good quality.
Battery life and charging
The tablet hides a battery with a capacity of up to 8000 mAh. We expected such good endurance on a single charge. Our expectations were met, because the tablet managed to handle several days of normal use without any problems. Of course, endurance decreases with intensive use and playing of games, but you can count on at least two days even with slightly more intensive use without 4G.
However, charging is a slight disappointment. Since the battery has a high capacity, we were afraid of a long charge. Using the included charger, the tablet was charged from 20% to 100 for almost 4 hours. This is quite a long time nowadays. We would welcome the possibility of faster charging, but even if you use another, more powerful charger, the charging time will not be reduced, because the tablet does not support faster charging.
Teclast T30: Final evaluation
As we mentioned in the introduction, we have been using Teclast T30 regularly for a long time, so we can better evaluate its strengths and weaknesses. We have to say that we are satisfied with the tablet. Of course, it is not flawless. The AMOLED display would be more beautiful, but it would probably reduce the endurance per charge. We would enjoy faster charging and better quality cameras.
Thanks to the 10.1 ″ display, the tablet is a great companion for classic internet browsing, watching YouTube videos, movies, series or even playing games. The solid aluminum body ensures high quality workmanship and sufficient durability.
A big advantage is also the possibility of purchasing an original keyboard, which is easily connected with a special connector. You can easily turn a tablet into a small laptop.
As we will continue to use the tablet for private purposes, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Please test the Teclast M18 😉✌️👍 Thank you.
