Assembly out of the box is difficult, but not difficult
Lankeleisi X2000 Max will be delivered in a rather heavy 40 kilogram box. The bike itself is very well packed inside so that no part of it is damaged or the paintwork gets dirty. In this, the Lankeleisi brand is exemplary.
When folding, the presence of two people is necessary, because a heavy 37 kilogram bicycle would be difficult to pull out of the box by one person. Most of the parts are nicely assembled, all that is needed is to fit the front wheel with the motor and connect the wiring. The handlebars, seat and pedals must also be put on the stem.
After that, all that remains is to put on the plastic fenders and attach the front light. Assembly is very simple and relatively quick. Those who use a rear case will certainly be pleased with a solid rear carrier, with which you can comfortably carry some grocery shopping.
Quality folding construction
We rate the quality of the construction and overall design of the bike as a big positive. Engineers from China made sure that the folding mechanism was designed and made firmly, which is felt during use. We think this mechanism will last much longer than some cheaper Chinese brands from AliExpress.
The total width of the bicycle is 178 cm. The highest part, i.e. the handlebars, has a height of 118 to 125 cm, as they are height adjustable. When folded, the bike is only 95 cm wide and 79 cm high, which makes it easy to fit even in smaller suitcases.
The bike can be broken in the middle and then the battery can be removed from the frame, which is especially appreciated by residents of apartment buildings. The stem with the handlebars can also be folded down, which makes it possible to fold the bike into itself and fit it in the trunk of a larger car.
A very successful design
The aluminum alloy has a very nice matte black finish with elements of orange. This version looks really nice and from our subjective point of view it is the most beautiful of the three available colors. The inner walls of the rim also have orange paint.
We are also pleased with the nice arrangement of cables on the handlebars, basically all cables are hidden in a fabric zipper from the factory. Also, the power cable for the front motor is securely held in plastic holders, which is retracted with screws.
The front suspension is very decent
The Lankeleisi X2000 Max only includes a front oil fork, so it lacks rear suspension, which will be felt on rougher terrain. However, the front fork surprised us very positively, because we are used to extremely soft suspension in Chinese e-bikes, which is not helped even by the regulation with controls.
With a heavier rider (already around 85 kg), you can feel that the suspension is still doing a decent job, which we were surprised by. At first we suspected that it was an air fork, we didn't even see any lubricated cylinder, but it is an oil fork. Although there is no rear shock absorber, the thick tires at least partially serve the purpose of damping.
It has hydraulic brakes, but it's not a Zoom
At Lankeleisi, we are used to better quality hydraulic brakes. Last tested Lankeleisi RV800 Plus it has higher level brakes from Zoom, but Lankeleisi X2000 Max slightly worse DYISLAND brakes. They are not bad, but it is felt that if we need to brake more forcefully, it is necessary to use significantly more hand strength.
The discs have a diameter of 180 mm, which we think is sufficient for such a massive fatbike. Smaller ones might not be enough for the higher weight of the rider and of course bigger ones would not offend.
The tires are 20 x 4 inches and are from the CHAOYANG brand, which is relatively high quality. The tires hold excellently and thanks to the nature of the fat tires, the bike has no problem with higher obstacles or on the contrary – potholes, you can really go through everything on it.
Decent power thanks to two engines
The biggest draw of this electric fatbike is clearly the presence of the motor in the rear, but also in the front hub. There are not many electric bicycles with a double engine at all, and therefore we are happy for this addition to the portfolio of Chinese models. The two motors ensure trouble-free going up hills even with a higher weight, which we can confirm, it pulls perfectly.
The manufacturer apparently restricted the release of full juice to both engines during start-up through the controller, and we waited in vain for the effect of skidding and shooting stones around. The start-up is clearly smoother than with the more expensive cousin RV800 Plus, and it cannot even be compared with some 250 W motors from competing brands.
According to the manufacturer, the maximum torque is still slightly lower than that of the RV800 Plus, 100 Nm vs the current 90 Nm. Therefore, we think that the manufacturer could have gotten a little more out of both engines. Well, this is probably due to the fact that we are talking about a Bafang engine and, on the other hand, an unbranded engine.
The motors can be switched on by hand throttle or pedaling. According to the set speed from 1 to 5, the bike will increase speed automatically.
Branded Samsung batteries are not missing
Another draw of the Lankeleisi X2000 Max is the high-quality Samsung cells, guaranteeing a significantly better range, which we also saw in the previous review of the Lankeleisi RV800 Plus. They have a capacity of 20 Ah, which is very decent for a bike at this price.
We decided to test the range on both engines in the field. The test rider weighs around 80kg and we managed to go on a single charge in speed mode 3-4 for almost 60 kilometers, which is very decent. With one engine, a range of around 90 kilometers is very realistic, but it depends on the average speed, which can make a big difference.
Rear and front lighting or rear carrier
The basic equipment straight out of the box is decent. There is a regular LED light at the front, but what other brands lack is a rear light. Lankeleisi X2000 Max also has a stylish rear light in the package.
The power of the front light is not groundbreaking, it is more of a normal light and we would recommend buying something stronger for the handlebars.
Basic Shimano derailleur
What we expected was confirmed. Not only Lankeleisi, but also other Chinese manufacturers like to use the basic Shimano Altus derailleur, file converter, and the Lankeleisi X2000 Max is no exception.
There are only 7 speeds available, which is in short supply. This proves itself immediately at a speed of 35 km/h and more. It would be really good if the Chinese would invest in better quality transmissions because there would be so much more to the driving experience. Also, more active cyclists could take more time with their own manual drive.
Final evaluation: Lankeleisi X2000 Max
We can evaluate the Lankeleisi X2000 Max as a very successful fatbike, which brings two motors, a folding body and a high-quality battery from Samsung cells under the price level of €2000, which was missing from the Lankeleisi portfolio.
We appreciate the high-quality aluminum alloy with a reliable folding mechanism, removable battery from the frame, hydraulic brakes, high-quality 20" thick tires, clear LCD display.
However, what we can criticize the manufacturer for is the weaker performance of both engines than we expected and, in the end, a lower torque than the Lankeleisi RV800 Plus. We would also like wider handlebars and, as always, very weak and basic Shimano Altus derailleurs.
If our review convinced you to buy this dual-motor fatbike, you can buy it in the official store with an extended warranty of 3 years for the frame, 1,5 years for the battery or reliable customer support. In case of problems, we can assist with complaints.
