Content and quality of packaging
The KuKirin G2 electric scooter was brought to us by the GLS courier in a box with dimensions of 123.5 x 20.5 x 57.5 cm and a weight of 29.5 kg. It is not an overly large box, which suggests that it is a more compact scooter model.
It is in the box in a folded state and with the handlebars removed, thanks to which its assembly will not be complicated. In addition to the scooter, we also find a rear fender, a charger, a manual and a tool with screws for attaching the handlebars and fender.
The entire scooter is protected by polystyrene reinforcements in the box, so we rate the quality of the packaging positively. Although we prefer foam reinforcements rather than polystyrene, since these break and crumble, but they fulfilled their function.
Simple assembly
As we have already indicated, the assembly in this case is not at all complicated or lengthy. It consists only in fixing the handlebars and the rear fender. For these purposes, the package includes screws and Allen keys.
We simply flipped the scooter still in the box to conveniently mount the handlebars using four screws. Only then did we take the scooter out of the box to attach the rear fender.
All you have to do is inflate the wheels, charge the battery and you can drive.
Design and quality of workmanship
In terms of design, the KuKirin G2 scooter clearly ranks among the other models from this series. It offers an attractive design with a metal construction. Black, gray and orange are the colors of the KuKirin brand, which are typical for all their models.
The scooter weighs a little over 26 kg, which is not a lot, but in terms of size, this model belongs to a kind of middle class. The platform for the feet has dimensions of 46 x 18.5 cm and is complemented by a rear step. Personally, we prefer longer platforms, but we are glad that there is at least the aforementioned foot space above the rear spring.
The construction of the scooter also allows folding, which is very easy. Just unlock the safety and fold the handlebars towards the rear fender.
Wide handlebars and touch screen
The KuKirin G2 is not one of the big scooters, but its handlebars are beautifully wide for its category. They are 66 cm, which we personally highly appreciate, as wider handlebars offer greater comfort.
The handlebars are dominated by a large display with touch buttons and a small screen against direct sunlight. The display shows the current speed, the selected driving mode, the status icons of the lights / cruise control / zero start, as well as the battery status. The battery symbol consists of up to ten divisions, which allows for a more accurate representation of the remaining capacity, but we would still prefer to see a percentage display.
Three touch buttons are used to switch lights, driving mode and change speed units between km/h and mph.
As for the layout of the elements on the handlebars themselves, on the left side there is a brake lever for the rear brake and a controller with buttons for the turn signals and the horn. On the right side there is a rotary throttle control, which also has a lever, a brake lever for the front brake and a button to turn the scooter on and off.
Performance and driving modes
The KuKirin G2 electric scooter is equipped with an 800W motor, thanks to which the scooter reaches a maximum speed of 45 km/h. The engine is located in the rear wheel. Three modes are available, graded according to speed: 25 / 35 / 45 km/h.
Overall, the scooter has quite decent performance, but it is no asphalt ripper. The acceleration is just right, which makes the scooter quite nimble, but it needs a longer run-up to reach maximum speed.
Handles hills averagely. On very steep hills without starting, it slows down significantly or even stops completely. It is not the best option for hilly terrain.
Lighting also with turn signals
The scooter catches your eye at first sight with a large front light that shines quite well, but since it is firmly built in, it does not offer the option of adjusting the inclination.
Next to the front white light, there are also turn signals, which can also be found at the back. The front turn signals are more visible than the rear ones, as the rear part is dominated by a stronger and larger red light, which makes the turn signals optically disappear.
Wheels, brakes and suspension
The KuKirin G2 has 10-inch tubeless wheels. Tires are specifically 10 x 2.75 – 6.5″. The equipment also includes disc brakes, which are only mechanical, not hydraulic, but they are completely sufficient for such a scooter. The discs have a diameter of 140 mm.
These are full-fledged disc brakes with two brake pads on each disc. Due to the weight and performance of the scooters, they can tame it without any problems, and they will not let you down even in emergency situations when you have to brake at the last moment.
If we look at the suspension, we will notice a spring damper in both the front and rear. It handles unevenness well, although sometimes the scooter knocks gently at higher speeds.
Battery and range
A 48V / 15Ah battery is hidden in the chassis, which according to the manufacturer should be sufficient for 55 km at medium speed. However, such data must be verified in real operation, which of course we did not miss in this case either.
With the scooter, we went to the streets of Košice and the surrounding area. We rode mainly on cycle paths and roads in maximum mode. Wherever the situation allowed, we went at the maximum possible speed, that is, we did not spare the scooter at all. On the contrary, we tried to get the most out of it in order to enjoy the ride properly.
To track the distance, we turned on the Strava application on our smartphone, which measured a total of 28.44 km. Even the scooter itself measures the range surprisingly accurately, as the display showed a range of 28 km. It is not much, but considering the used battery, power and weight of the scooter, it is a standard range. Of course, with slower and gentler driving, you can go significantly more on one charge.
For the completeness of the data, we would like to add that the editor who tested the scooter weighs 75 kg and rode it at the end of October, when the daily temperature was around 16 °C.
KuKirin G2: Final review
Are you looking for a good scooter at a reasonable price? The KuKirin G2 can be an interesting choice. For less than 500 EUR, it offers an 800W rear motor, a maximum speed of 45 km/h and a 48V / 15Ah battery. In addition, it looks very good, has wide handlebars, a clear and large display, indicators and disc brakes.
We rode the scooter very well and comfortably. We also appreciate the wide handlebars, which improve its handling. As a negative, we see a mudguard that doesn't cover too much of the rear wheel, so you probably won't stay completely dry when driving in wet conditions. In addition, the front fender is completely missing.
