DUOTTS C29 is a very interesting and affordable electric bike from China. That's why we decided to test it for you. We were particularly impressed by the large 29″ wheels, 750 W motor and 48 V system, which indicates quite good performance.
In the review, we will look at the quality of processing, control and driving modes, we will also talk about comfort during driving, individual components of the bicycle and, last but not least, we will also measure the range per charge.

Content and quality of packaging
The DUOTTS C29 electric bicycle was delivered to us by the DPD courier in a relatively large box with dimensions of 142 x 23 x 77 cm. Its weight was 31.49 kg and it is quite difficult to carry, since there are no straps to hold it.
The box is made of thick cardboard, and although it was slightly damaged in a few places, overall it is very durable. In addition, the bike is sufficiently protected inside with many air bags and soft foam reinforcements. Nevertheless, slight damage was found on the bike, specifically on the seat upholstery. However, this probably occurred during production or during packaging, not during transportation.
In addition to the bicycle with the battery, we also find some accessories in the package. Specifically, it is a small hand pump, a charger with an adapter, a smartphone holder with a power supply and a set of tools for assembly and maintenance.
Overall, we rate the packaging quality as average. Although the bike is protected by the mentioned protective braces and the individual parts are attached using tightening straps, the bike itself is well protected.
However, the inner box with the accessories was slightly damaged, so some screws and the front wheel axle fell out of it. Since the box has holes in two places, these small parts could fall out through them.
Folding the bike
Since the bike is not complete in the box, we have to assemble it before the first use. The installation will take some time, as we need to install several components. Just unpacking and removing all the packaging and protective materials took us a lot of time.
The entire assembly consists of fixing the handlebars, front wheel, front light, mudguards and pedals. We just started with the assembly of the handlebars. Just insert them into the prepared stem and tighten the four screws.
We continued by attaching the front wheel. A metal rod is fixed in the space between the front fork, which we first dismantled. Then we removed the plastic cover from the wheel and put it in place in the front fork.
Subsequently, it is enough to insert the central axle, which is packed in the box, from one side and place the nut on its other end. After gently tightening the nut, we secured the central axis with a quick-release clamp. According to the instructions, the washers were also supposed to go here, but we didn't find them in the package.
Once we had the front wheel in place, we aligned the handlebars so they were perpendicular to the front wheel and secured them with a pair of screws at the top. We continued with the installation of the pedals, which are simply screwed and tightened with an open-end wrench. Pay attention to the correct direction of the threads. Pedals are marked with lettersnami L (left) and R (right).
Finally, we mounted the mudguards using the included screws and nuts, the front light and also the smartphone holder. Since the holder also serves as a smartphone charger, we also connected the corresponding cable.
Build quality, design and bike size
Electric bicycle DUOTTS C29 looks very attractive at first glance. This is no small bike for short Chinese people. On the contrary, its frame is suitable for a height of 170-200 cm. It is made of aluminum and in fact the workmanship looks surprisingly very good. The frame is solid and has no visible imperfections.
As for the overall quality of processing, it is very good. The only flaw in our case was the mentioned slightly damaged saddle, which was probably damaged during production or packaging. However, the seller immediately sent us a new saddle.
As we mentioned, the frame is quite large. You can see its specific dimensions in the picture below. The great news is that while many Chinese electric bikes only have 26″ wheels, the DUOTTS C29 has large, up to 29″ wheels. These enable driving at higher speeds and easier overcoming of the terrain.
Our editor who tested this bike is 185 cm tall and the bike fit him perfectly.
Components and controls
The electric bike has relatively good equipment, but rather cheaper models of components were used. Let's start with the handlebars. These have a generous width of 72 cm and are equipped with a simple display with three control buttons, metal brake levers, gearshift, ergonomic grips, a simple throttle control and buttons for controlling the light and horn.
The shifter also has a display of the engaged gear. It is a simple shift using levers and a button, Shimano TX50. The transmission has three gears, while the rear cassette is 8-speed. A Shimano Tourney TZ derailleur takes care of shifting at the back. In total, we have up to 21 speeds available.
The saddle is relatively large and unusually comfortable for a mountain bike. Our only reservation is its slight backward tilt. However, we can adjust the inclination.
The brakes are not branded, but they are disc, mechanical with a cable and a 160 mm disc. As for their effectiveness, it is not the best. During hard braking, we had to press the brake levers quite hard, but on the other hand, after a few kilometers, the brakes are still working.
We praise the quality of the pedals, which are metal with enough surface and good grip, so they don't slip at all. Last but not least, we have the front suspension fork, which is only spring-loaded in this price category.
It has a lock to lock it and a rotary selector to change the stiffness. Overall, the suspension is quite stiff and we feel quite a lot of shocks in our hands when going over bumps. Of course, this is a relatively cheap suspension fork, from which you don't have to expect much. It is better than none, but after replacing it with an air one, we would definitely feel a significant improvement in driving comfort.
Engine and battery
The DUOTTS electric bicycle has a 750W motor, which is located in the hub of the rear wheel. The controller that controls this motor is located rather unconventionally, on the underside of the frame, right in front of the converters in a large plastic cover. This element probably most significantly spoils the overall design of the bike. The driver could have been better hidden in another place.
The battery is relatively large, powerful and, at least on the outside, appears to be of high quality due to its processing. It is a 48V / 15 Ah battery, which is a very good sign. Last time we tested an electric mountain bike Choose M1 Plus, which only had a 36V system with a 12.5 Ah battery and a motor with a maximum power of 500 W. DUOTTS offers much more attractive parameters at a similar price.
Charging with the included charger takes approximately 6.5 hours.
Driving modes, real performance and driving comfort
Now let's get to the most interesting part, which is the ride itself and the actual performance of the bike. As we mentioned in the introduction, the bike has a simple display with three buttons on the handlebars. Specifically, it is a button for turning on / off or changing the mode and a pair of "+" and "-" buttons for setting the performance.
We have 3 options for using the bike. The first option is a classic bike ride without an electric drive. The second option is pedaling, during which the electric motor is activated to get us to the desired speed, and the third option is to control the motor using the lever on the handlebars.
In modes powered by an electric motor, we have a choice of five power levels that differ in maximum speed. With our weight 80 kg we reached maximum speeds in the mentioned five modes 18 / 26 / 34 / 40 / 45 km/h.
However, it should be noted that the DUOTTS C29 electric bicycle, like other Chinese electric bicycles, always starts up to the maximum speed of the selected mode when turning the pedals. So if we choose the first mode and start to turn the pedals, the electric motor will start up to a speed of 18 km/h, which it will maintain regardless of how we turn the pedals. It's enough to turn the pedals, so to speak, on empty, without engagement.
The electric motor has a very decent performance and the acceleration of the bike is surprisingly good. It perfectly handles even steeper hills without a run-off, so with a bike from DUOTTS you can go out into hilly terrain without any worries.
As for comfort while driving, the large wheels make the ride relatively comfortable. However, larger unevenness can already be felt, mainly due to the lower-quality suspension fork. Overall, however, we are satisfied with the driving comfort.
Range on one charge and data on the display
With its 29 Ah battery, the DUOTTS C15 should last approximately 50 km of driving in purely electric mode. However, the manufacturer does not indicate in which mode such range was measured. We assume it was in one of the weaker modes with a lower top speed.
We used the bike to the full, so we measured the range in electric mode with the highest power level, in which we reached a maximum speed of around 45 km/h. We rode in and around Košice, mostly on cycle paths, always at the maximum possible speed that the current conditions allowed us.
We measured the mileage not only on the bicycle display, but also using the Runkeeper application on our smartphone. On a single charge we passed exactly 30.61 km according to the Runkeeper application and almost the same according to the display on the bike (31 km). It thus measures the distance quite accurately, but the speed is slightly higher on the bicycle display compared to GPS on a smartphone. On average by 3-4 km/h at higher speeds.
The range is quite decent considering the maximum speed and engine power. We remind you that we always drove in the highest mode and only on electricity, so 30 km is the lower limit of the range.
If we used a weaker mode or used the pedals sometimes, it would definitely be more. But let's not forget to mention that cycling on such a bike without a drive is more difficult than on a classic bike, since we have to overcome the resistance of the engine and, secondly, the bike itself is relatively heavy.
As for the LCD display, let's go through the individual data it displays. The dominant element is the current speed, but it is sometimes displayed slightly delayed. Furthermore, here we can find a graphic display of the battery capacity, as well as the current performance mode.
Stand, lights and smartphone holder
In conclusion, we would like to address some components that deserve a few words. The first is the bike stand. It is extremely powerful, strong and the bike rests on it very stably.
The smartphone holder is also interesting, which allows you to charge your smartphone while driving. We did not find a USB cable in the package, which is a shame, because a very short cable would be enough for us. The smartphone does not charge very quickly here, but it will serve for some kind of emergency charging.
Third, let's mention lighting. Here we only have the front white light, which shines quite brightly and is very visible from a distance. It is turned on by a button next to the left handle, where, by the way, we also find a loud horn. The rear red light is missing and the bike doesn't even have orange reflectors in the spokes of the wheels. We can only find them on the pedals.
Due to the absence of a red rear reflector and orange reflectors in the wheels, this bicycle does not have the mandatory equipment stipulated by law for Slovakia. However, according to the law, reflectors can be replaced with reflective elements on clothing.
DUOTTS C29: Final evaluation
The DUOTTS C29 electric bike pleasantly surprised us. Being one of the cheapest electric mountain bikes, we didn't have high expectations. The overall quality of the processing is very good, the bike has 29″ wheels and a frame suitable for taller figures.
You will be pleased with the great motor performance of up to 750 W and the 48V 15Ah battery. Thanks to this combination, the bike has good acceleration and a maximum speed of almost 45 km/h with our weight of 80 kg. During our testing, we covered 30 km on a single charge in the highest mode, when we drove only on electric power.
Since it is a relatively cheap bike compared to others, certain compromises must be expected. We do not like the placement of the electronics in a plastic box on the bottom of the frame and also some components. This includes, for example, the basic Shimano shifter model, which is quite outdated for today's time, and the ordinary spring front fork, which is quite stiff. Driving off-road at higher speeds is not very comfortable.
