Do you like compact folding smartphones? In that case, we have good news for you. The Chinese brand Huawei today officially introduced a new folding model called Huawei P50 Pocket. He should compete directly with his South Korean competitor. Yes, we are talking about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. Huawei brings a larger 120 Hz display, but also a 40 MPx main rear camera.
Design and display of the new smartphone: "Lid" has 6,9 ″ 120 Hz AMOLED
This time, the Chinese manufacturer emphasized premium design and quality workmanship. Elegant colors, including white and gold, are complemented by conservative black. The Premium Gold edition was designed by prominent designer Iris Van Herpen. There is also a circular camera module and also a compact front display with a diagonal of 1 ″, which can show you notifications and other important information when closing.
Thanks to the used folding construction, you will find it after opening the hinge 6,9 ″ AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 21: 9. It has a softness of 442 ppi, supports 1,07 billion colors and a wide color gamut P3. The internal display even has a high refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a high sampling rate of up to 300 Hz.
A very interesting element of the construction itself is also a multidimensional hinge, which will offer an even smaller radius than its predecessors. It was on the new side that the Huawei development center incorporated, bringing a relatively slim design to the new "lid."
Camera: 40 MPx main sensor
If we look at competing folding smartphones, they dominate mainly by their design and the camera usually plays only the "second violin." In the case of the novelty from Huawei, however, we have main 40 MPx camera with True Chroma technology. It is complemented by a 13 MPx ultra-wide angle lens and a 32 MPx Ultra Spectrum sensor, which is connected to a 10-channel multispectral sensor.
While you also know the first pair from other flagship smartphones, the third Ultra Spectrum sensor brings something exclusive just for the P50 Pocket model. It is a camera that is complemented by specific sensors that aim to improve image reproduction and capture small details in photographs. This will help, among other things, to take clearer pictures in complete darkness.
However, a key feature is the new ultraspectral fluorescent photography mode, which allows you to capture content and detail that is not visible to the naked eye. In other words, Huawei is opening up a new world of patterns and colors that also has practical uses. The manufacturer cited a face scan with sunscreen as an example, and this sensor shows "blind spots" to prevent burns.
Additional technical specifications
From other specifications Huawei P50 pocket we must mention a 4000 mAh battery that also supports 40W fast SuperCharge charging. In terms of performance, the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor will be available, but it only offers 4G connectivity support. The processor will be supplemented with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage.
Other features include Wi-Fi 6, a side fingerprint sensor and face unlocking with front (open) and rear camera (closed). In addition, the folding smartphone is very light, weighing only 190 grams. It is only 7,2 millimeters thick when opened or 15,2 millimeters at closure.
